28 CARS ENTERED FOR SATURDAY’S “ALLSTATE LIGHTNING 100” MIDGET RACE IN TEXAS

Kyle, TX (April 4, 2007) - A tremendous field of 28 cars is pre-entered already for Saturday’s “Allstate Lightning 100” USAC National Midget race presented by Toyota at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas. It’s the second appearance of the series at the track which hosted last October’s USAC debut, won by Dave Steele.

Steele, of Tampa, Fla., is among the strong field which will attack the 3/8-mile paved oval located between Austin and San Antonio. He’ll challenge Josh Wise’s 1-lap track qualifying record of 13.981 seconds.

Steele and teammate Dave Darland will pilot Toyota-powered cars entered by Nine Racing on Laguna Beach, Calif. That team has won 10 of the last 14 USAC National Midget Car Owner Championships!

NASCAR vet Bobby East is also entered, along with USAC Triple Crown Champion Tracy Hines, who won USAC’s inaugural Silver Crown race at Homestead, Fla. March 23. Hines and Levi Jones will team in Chevrolet-powered cars entered by Tony Stewart.

Defending series champion Jerry Coons, Jr. and two-time National Midget Driver of the Year Brad Kuhn are also entered, along with a bevy of talented drivers. They include the winningest female driver in USAC history – Stephanie Mockler, plus 2006 USAC Kenyon Midget Champ Chris Windom, 2006 National Midget Most Improved Driver Brad Loyet and his teammates Brady Bacon and Donnie Ray Crawford, National Rookie of the Year Bryan Clauson, Western Midget and Sprint Rookies of the Year Chase Barber and Bradley Galedrige, Regional Midget Rookie of the Year Brian Olson and two sons of famous racers – Kevin Swindell and Chuck Gurney, Jr. Swindell’s father is Sammy Swindell and Gurney’s father is Chuck Gurney, a two-time USAC Silver Crown Champion.
