Texas Terry and Texas Motorsports Experience Team Up at THR

Two-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series Champion “Texas” Terry Labonte may have retired from the NEXTEL Cup Circuit, but his popularity with Texas race fans is as stout as ever. The Corpus Christi native, best known for his colorful #5 Kellogg Frosted Flakes “Tony The Tiger” Chevrolet made an appearance before a packed grandstand at the Full Throttle Production’s “Allstate Texas Thunder and Lightning Thunder Racefest” event at Thunder Hill Raceway this past weekend.

Labonte, on hand to serve as the Grand Marshal and Official Starter for the 150 Lap Grand National West Division season opener also had the added bonus of watching his son Justin compete in the event. But what most fans really came for besides the event itself was the chance to go for the “Ride of a Lifetime” in a real Cup car with “Texas” Terry behind the wheel.

Thanks to special arrangements made by Full Throttle Productions co-founders Aryn White and Tavo Hellmund with the Houston-based Texas Motorsports Experience (TME) thousands of fans entered their names in a special drawing to determine who would sit in the passenger seat for the 5-lap ride-along.

“When I helped the winning contestant Gerry Whittington from Austin out of her TME NASCAR two-seater in front of the grandstand after her ride with Terry she was literally weak in the knees like most people are when they emerge from any of our Event cars”, said Mick Anderson, TME Director of Marketing and Sales and track announcer at Thunder Hill Raceway. “They get so pumped up from the exhilarating experience. Until you ride in or drive one of these authentic super-speedway cars on a short track yourself you have no idea how fun and intense it can be. Nobody is ever ready to get out”.

Texas Motorsports Experience “Ride-Alongs” or “Driving Experiences” are available at Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) in Kyle, Texas and Houston Motorsports Park on a year round basis. Customized events can be scheduled for groups of 15 or more at THR on weekdays or evenings. Individuals and smaller groups can take advantage of scheduled Saturday morning events that coincide with THR race dates like April 28th. “ We have a great working relationship with promoter Mary Ann Naumann and her management group”, said Cheri Bumbera, President of Next Generation Racing, the parent company for TME. “They’ve agreed to provide a pair of complimentary general admission race tickets to Driving Experience participants on race dates. Another corporate friend of ours, Sharon Chandler with Roadway Specialties Inc. has volunteered access to her suite for TME customers to relax in during the evening”.

Event dates for Thunder Hill Raceway are scheduled for April 28th, May 26th, June 23rd, July 28th, August 11th and September 15th, 2007. For reservations, please call Mick Anderson at (512) 413-8860.
