Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMods join half mile show at East Texas Motor Speedway

KILGORE, Texas (Jan. 16) – Drivers in the IMCA Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMod division go to new lengths this season at East Texas Motor Speedway.

The Kilgore track adds SportMods to Saturday race programs in 2007 and becomes the first half mile venue where the sanctioned division runs.

“I think this class is a real good deal for drivers and fans,” said first year promoter Eric Sanderson, already acquainted with IMCA from his own career piloting Modifieds and Stock Cars.

Sanderson’s father Jack purchased the former Lone Star Speedway, with the new name accompanying the change in ownership. Adding new clay around the entire racing surface is on the to-do list, along with

replacing electrical wiring stolen last fall, before opening night on March 31.

Points races continue through Sept. 22.

“As a driver, I always looked at things at the track and thought how they could be done better,” Sanderson said. “We want to have a good track. Our motto is going to be ‘Where family and racing come together.’”

Southern SportMods will be on the card at the inaugural East Texas Nationals, planned for Friday and Saturday, June 1-2.
