HORSEPOWER
Check out these fast times for qualifying at Winchester 1/2 mile, 3 seconds faster than SAS. A SLM at SAS would be some where in the middle of turn four, while these cars are passing the start/finish line. The pole for the Sportmans qualified with 16.97. I was comparing some times with NEXTEL at Bristol from August race, someone has their miles per hour wrong, if they are the same size track. All they have to do now is soak the tires. 1 _5 __Danny Jackson ___ 15.192 _118.483 2_ 56 _Evan Jackson ____ 15.330 _117.410 3_ 17 _Chris Gabehart ___15.431 _116.648 4_ 11_ Jeff Lane ________15.455 _116.467 5 _1_ _Brian Rievley _____15.527 _115.927 1 _2_ _Kurt Busch _______15.362 _124.906 2 _31 _Jeff Burton _______15.374 _124.800 3 _43 _Bobby Labonte____15.414 _124.484 4 _17 _Matt Kenseth _____15.424 _124.404 5 _20 _Tony Stewart _____15.437 _124.
97car
That track is banked all the way around and doesn't flatten out on the straights. The midgets turned that or less after the last re-pave there.
txtom
I was comparing some times with NEXTEL at Bristol from August race, someone has their miles per hour wrong, if they are the same size track. Josh, It will depend on where the track is measured. I am willing to bet that they are not the same length, and that is where you would have the disparity. Tracks can be several hundred feet long or short of a half, and still called a half. For example, they called Jackson Mississippi a half mile, although it was well known that it was closer to 5/8ths through the groove. Believe it or not, some of the tracks on the long side of a half call still themselves a half, to call them bigger would raise their insurance rates. The old insurance thing raises it's head. And the 15.19 turned by Jackson at Winchester is quick, but think about the all time stock car record--Mark Martin lapped that place 25 years ago at a -14.50- in an ASA car. And that was not a misprint.
