With the Hertz Rent A Car I. M. C. A. Southern SportMods Rent A Car I. M. C. A. Southern SportMods off to compete in the Nationals at Heart O Texas Speedway, there were only six classes running. But the racing was great, the crowd enthusiastic, and some track employee's got to have a bit of fun.

The first race of the night was a ten lap feature just for the Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Jr Mini Stocks. Five youngsters took place, lined up by championship points, in the last Jr Mini race at Texas Thunder. Next year this class will transform into the Teen Mini's, as it will be open to any teenager to compete in.

It was Colton Monroe using his pole position to get the early lead over Joseph Charnock, Nathan Robbins, Ryan Ellis, and Jacob Wininger. In turn two, on lap one, Charnock got a huge run on Monroe and pulled right on his back bumper. But in turn four, Charnock bobbled, giving Monroe a four car length lead. On lap five, Charnock had reeled Monroe back in and dove under him in turn two. As the raced out of the corner and down the back stretch, it was Charnock powering his way to the lead. But it was short lived as a lap later Monroe used the same move, in the same corner to get alongside Charnock. They raced door handle to door handle to turn four, where a slight bobble by Charnock gave Monroe back the lead. It would be a lead he would maintain for the final four laps, eventually getting to the checkered flag two car lengths ahead of Charnock to record his fifteenth win of the year.

The always competitive Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Street Stocks were next for their fifteen lap feature race. The eighteen drivers started the race in Championship points order, so Robert Simmerman was on the pole. But it was outside pole sitter Trevor Sparkman getting the jump on the green flag and leading the pack to the back stretch. He was followed by Simmerman, Albert Wininger Jr, Scott Wilson, and Danny Dunn. In turn four, Simmerman got around Sparkman and took over the lead. Wininger Jr also got around Sparkman as they raced by the flag stand to start lap one.

By lap three, Simmerman was already catching the back of the pack. On lap four, Corey Stepan got around Dunn for fifth. On the next circuit, Lee Chase bounced his ride off the front stretch wall to a stop, thus bringing out a yellow flag. The restart top five were Simmerman, Wininger Jr, Sparkamn, Wilson, and driving Chris Ochoa's car, P. J. Egbert. Egbert was trying to win this race, to go along with his wins in Modifieds, I-Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Texas Twisters.

On the restart, Egbert got around Wilson in turn two for the fourth spot. Stepan also got around Wilson in turn three, to get fifth. On lap six, Egbert picked off another car in his march to the front, sending Sparkman back a spot in turn four. On lap eight, the fight up front was heating up, as Wininger Jr dove under Simmerman on the back stretch. The raced side by side to turn one, lap nine, where Wininger Jr took over the lead.

A lap later and Egbert had caught Simmerman and a battle ensued for second. Egbert got a run under Simmerman exciting turn two and they dueled down the back stretch to turn three, where Simmerman had a better line and held on to the runner up spot. As they raced around to the entrance to turn four on lap ten, Egbert again dove under Simmerman. As they raced hard in the middle of the corner, they swapped some paint, with both drivers having to save the cars. Simmerman again beat back Egberts charge.

Wininger Jr was slowing pulling away from the duel for second on lap eleven. Egbert would again pounce on Simmerman, using the low line in turn two to draw alongside. They again went door handle to door handle, this time for a lap and a half, before Egbert finally was able to put Simmerman behind him. With the laps winding down, Egbert was trying to chase down Wininger Jr, when the leader, got bumped by the lapped car of Dunn on lap thirteen. Though it was a scary moment for the leader, and it did let Egbert close in, Wininger Jr would take the checkered flag three car lengths in front of a closing Egbert. It was ninth win of the year, and by beating Sparkman by two spots, clinched second spot in the championship.

Robert Simmerman showed that winning the championship in 2005 was no fluke, as the driver from Evant, Tx, backed up last years championship with another one this year!

Before the night even started, championship leader, Gary White and his crew completed a tremendous challenge. They started building a Twister at 6:00 PM, in the infield of the track and with only a limited set of tools. This was the car that White had to run in a race that was scheduled to start in about three and a half hours. If it didn't get done, he could lose the championship.

It took just under two hours for the work to be completed on White's car.

When it was time for the Budweiser Racing Texas Twisters to take to the fast track, again lined up by points, there were sixteen ready to rock and roll. It was the man who won the first ever Budweiser Racing Texas Twister feature, “Nasty Nate” Cullifer taking the early lead, followed by Gary White, Larry Tuerck, James Deane, and Brian Mendenhall. On the back stretch Tuerck got around G. White for second. On lap one, turn one, Mendenhall got around Deane for fourth. In turn four, Jared Bouchie pushed Deane back another spot, to move into the top five.

On lap three, Bouchie dove under G. White in turn one and by turn two had picked up fourth place. On lap four, Mendenhall, the first guy to ever claim a Twister, got around Tuerck in turn on to get into the runner up spot. On lap five, Mendenhall got under Cullifer in turn one. The two banged doors and as they traded paint in turn two, Mendenhall took over the lead. Tuerck got around Cullifer as well.

On the sixth circuit, the top five were Mendenhall, Tuerck, Cullifer, #707 (name not known) and Aaron White. On lap seven, the top four were nose to tail. In turn three #707 got under Cullifer. They banged doors hard, and #707 got out of shape and lost five car lengths, in the battle for third. On lap eight, as the lead battle was being fought through lapped traffic, #707 got around Cullifer in turn two for third.

On lap ten, #707 pushed by Tuerck in turn two to tack over second. A lap later and #707 was getting the under leader Mendenhall in turn one. With some bumping and rubbing, #707 got the lead in turn two. A. White got by Cullifer for fourth on the same lap. The lead would be short lived for #707 though, as he was blacked flagged for rough driving on lap twelve. That moved Bouchie back into the top five.

With both Tuerck, and A. White nipping on his heals, Mendenhall won his second feature race of the year, after lining up seventh on the grid. Mendenhall won $100, for the win, put up by BC Repairs.

Thirteen Corbin & Associates, Atty's I. M. C. A. Stock Cars lined up to race. The were not racing for any points, just extra money and bragging rights with a draw/redraw format determining starting positions. It was pole sitter Jason “The Acro” Batt getting the the jump as the green flag waved. He was followed by Chris Lanhm, “Storm'n” Gary Norman, Josh Winner and Daniel Shipler were side by side for fourth, with Winner getting the spot as they started lap one. On the back stretch of lap two, Winner got around Norman for third. Lap two saw Justin McGehee move into the top five with a pass of Norman in turn two.

On lap three, McGehee and Winner went door handle to door handle coming out of turn two. They raced hard to turn four, where they bumped and both spun to a stop on the track. A yellow was brought out.

The restart order was Batt, Lanham, Norman, Shipler and Jessie James Cox Jr as the top five. As the green waved on the restart, Shipler got around Norman for third, but Norman dove under Shipler in turn one and they raced wheel to wheel all the way to the exit of turn two on lap five, where Norman got back the spot. On lap seven, Shad Stevens used the high line in turn two to get around Cox Jr for fifth.

As the laps were winding down, Stevens would get under Shipler on the back stretch and move up to fourth. Though there was furious racing for the remaining four laps, no positions changed hands and Batt won his second race of the year by five car lengths over Lanham.

Eleven Dodge Country I. M. C. A. Modified were on hand for their twenty lap feature race. The race was lined up via draw/redraw. It was PJ Egbert out to the early lead, followed by Jason Hoffman, Ken Old, Allen Waltimire, and Chuck Bish. On lap one, Rick Green got under Bish in turn one to take over fifth. On lap two, the only caution of the race was brought out when Waltimire ended up hopping Old's left rear tire and the to came to a halt with Waltimire's car hung up on Old's. Waltimire would continue, but Old's night was done.

The top five for the restart were Egbert, Hoffman, Green, Bish and Brian Fuller. In turn two, after the green waved, Green dove under Hoffman in a bid for second. They raced wheel to wheel to turn four before Green took over the spot. A charging Waltimire was back in sixth position and was pressuring Fuller for fifth. As the field raced under the crossed flags, Bish and Hoffman were wheel to wheel for third. The raced for two complete laps before Hoffman was able to beat back Bish's attack.

On lap thirteen, with Egbert pulling away from the field, Waltimire got around Fuller in turn two to get back into the top five. With just five circuits left, Bish got around a smoking Hoffman to get third. As the white flag fluttered in the breeze, Waltimire dove under Hoffman in turn four, and in turn one, he was able to grab fourth. Egbert went on to win his ninth win of the year by a half track over Green. Egbert started second.

The Cottman Transmissions Mini Stocks were up next. Combined with any Jr Mini Stocks that wanted to run, there were thirteen cars lined up for fifteen laps. I was not able to take notes on the race, as I was fitting myself into a Budweiser Racing Texas Twister for the Track Employee Race. Travis Zwiefelhofer won the race, and he will be forever known as the last Cottman Transmissions Mini Stock Champion.

Last, but definantly not least, six track employees found six Budweiser racing Texas Twister drivers stupi..... er.... nice enough to let them race their cars. Yours truly started third in Brian Mendenhall's #88, and when the green flag dropped, I hit the gas and was leading by turn one. Three laps into the race and I had built a straight away lead over the competition. If it wasn't for a broken axle, the #88 would have pulled into victory lane for the second time that night.

Kevin Finslea won the race, driving Chris Florio's car. Track Promoter Pat Wilson was blacked flagged for rough driving. Again.

All of us that ran that race would like the thank the following drivers for being stup... I mean nice enough to let us drive their cars
