Record Breaking Car Count Fills the Pits at Texana Raceway Park

By Chelle Brown

Even though there was an ever threatening chance of rain excitement filled the air at Texana Raceway Park for the two day money race. With many other tracks in the state being rained out we saw a record number of 120 cars on Saturday filling the pits and overflowing into the parking lot.

Friday night saw lots of excitement starting with the Mini Stock Feature and ending with the Demolition Derby. Mini Stocks ran the first feature of the weekend, seeing Justin Bloom of Blessing take the checkered flag. Jamie Reha of Victoria would come in second followed by Dakota Taylor of Louise in third.

Also running a Friday night feature would be the truck class. Kirk Loos of Victoria would cross the finish line first to take the checkered flag. Jimmy Rogers of Victoria, our current point leader, would finish in second place close on Loos' bumper. Bob Ort of Inez would round out the top three.

Then came some serious car crashing excitement with 10 cars coming out for the Demolition Derby and a chance at $1000. Jerry Vader of Prarie Lea and his black station wagon would take home first place prize money and a few more dents. However, Andy Blaschke of Shiner would take home second place prize money and a car ready for the scrap heap.

Dwarfs would start out the features of Saturday, with Frank Fuia of Wallis taking the checkered flag. Mike Christians of Bay City taking second and Stew Savage of Bay City coming in third.

Bombers would take the green light on their feature race next starting with a record number of 24 cars. Yet again, Monty Chamberlain of Louise would come out on top, followed by Allen Torres of San Antonio coming in second. Gary Blanchard of Freeport would come in third.

In the Street Stock Class G.W. Hessong would find his way to the checkered flag first. John Gay of Rosharon would come in close behind followed by Andrew Mann of Louise.

Scott Turner of Sheridan would come out on top of the Super Stock class again this weekend. Adam Perks of El Campo would come in a close second, and AJ Dancer of Red Rock would round out the top three.

The Late Model fans would see Kevin Migura of Victoria shine yet again this weekend as he took the checkered flag. Vince Kacir of Port Lavaca would come in second followed by Kevin Barnhart of Port Lavaca.

Also showing a record number of cars was the SportMod class, with 22 cars taking the green light in the feature race. Aaron Hudgeons of Cuero would also find himself in the winners circle once again. Newcommers Brandon Blaylock and Cory Babbitt would take second and third place finishes.

A record number of 31 IMCA Modified cars showed for the heat races and were narrowed down to just a field of 24 to start the feature. Lawernce Mikulencak would take the checkered flag. Steve Whiteaker Jr. would come in second and Roly Rodriguez would take a close third.

What a great weekend, the rain held off until the races were over and a good time was had by fans and drivers. Racing will return to Texana Raceway Park on Saturday, July 22 starting at 7:30 pm. The track is located 3 miles southeast of Hwy 59 on Hwy 111 just out of Edna, Texas. Hope to See You There!
