USRA SLM "Texas Two-Step Nationals" Coming to TMS and SAS This June

San Antonio, TX (May 12, 2006) – Two of the fastest stock car racing facilities in Texas are ready to host the United States Racing Association (USRA) Super Late Model Series in the “Texas Two-Step Nationals” presented by Magnum Trailers and TexasSpeedZone.com which will be “two-stepping” into Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on June 10, 2006, and San Antonio Speedway on June 17, 2006.

The Texas-based USRA is offering $5,000.00 to win the 70-lap race at Texas Motor Speedway (The Great American Speedway!) and another $5,000.00 to win the 150-lap event at San Antonio Speedway (Where the Racing is Real!) and a $5,000.00 bonus if a driver wins both races! Add that to a guaranteed $750.00 to every car that starts one of the races and a guaranteed $1,500.00 if a team starts both races and it becomes clear that Texas is the place to be in June.

“The rules for the Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) event will be posted on the USRA website in the next day or two,” USRA Race Director Rick Day said on Friday. “And the San Antonio Speedway portion of the dance will be run under rules very similar to the Five Flag Speedway and Mobile International Speedway Super Late Model rules. These rules will also be published on the USRA website in the next day or two.”

The USRA SLM event at TMS is part of the big Indy Racing League (IRL) and NASCAR Craftsman Truck weekend at the 1.5-mile super speedway.

“Many of the top racing operations in the country will be at TMS,” Day said. “This is an excellent opportunity for Super Late Model teams to show their stuff in front of people who call the shots in big-time racing. We expect quite a few teams from outside Texas to make the trip to Ft. Worth for this one.”

The San Antonio Speedway 150 portion of the “Texas Two-Step” will offer the same payout as the TMS portion and will include an open practice on Thursday and special events on Friday that will be announced in the near future.

“San Antonio Speedway is the fastest short track in Texas and is tailor-made for Super Late Models,” Day continued. “The track features long, fast straights and tight, high-banked turns. It’s really a racers’ track and the setup under the car is just as important – maybe even more important - as the horsepower available to the driver.”

Terry Labonte was the first track champion at SAS and many other well-known racers have raced at the famed high-banked oval. Several All-Pro events were held at the 30-year old facility and more recently the ASA Super Late Model Challenge Series held a very successful event on the SAS asphalt in early April.

“It wouldn’t surprise me to see several of the ASA teams back here for the “Texas Two-Step,” USRA Owner and Promoter Terry Dickerson said. “We’re offering a pretty decent purse and a great opportunity for someone to leave Texas $15,000.00 richer than when they came.”
