Dishman Wins Wire-to-Wire at San Antonio Speedway

 

Devine's Jack Dishman had it all his way Saturday night at San Antonio Speedway. Dishman won his heat race and powered his potent Ford Mustang to a convincing 1.7-second victory over points leader Bill LaBarge of Bryan in the 20-lap Texas Pro Sedan feature. With his second-place finish BMW driver LaBarge extended his TPS points lead over Sergio Hexsel of San Antonio who finished seventh in the 11-car field.

 

The race was red-flagged on the 17th lap when San Antonio's Jamie Garner slammed his VW Scirocco head-on into the concrete inside retaining wall after losing control going into the first turn. Garner suffered apparent chest injuries and was transported to Wilford Hall USAF Hospital by ambulance.

 

Defending TPS champion Randy Lee of Corpus Chisti, driving his familiar American Flag-themed Ford Mustang, gave Dishman all he could handle for most of the race. The pair raced nose-to-tail on the high-banked half-mile until Lee spun going into turn three on the sixteenth circuit.

 

Tony Johnson of Marion, driving the former Leroy Farmer Ford Mustang, was also a factor in the early going but had a tire go down during the red-flag period on lap 17. Johnson worked his way back to finish seventh.

 

LaBarge, who has four TPS championships to his credit, now enjoys a 38 point lead over Hexsel and a 63 point lead over Dishman.
