tqj3
Boerne's Knudtson Loses Chance at Three in a Row in NASCAR Sportsman Series with Ignition Problem, Still Leads Points Standings San Antonio –Boerne's Eric Knudtson was in the same position as a week earlier at San Antonio Speedway on Saturday night, running fourth with six laps to go and closing on the leaders when the engine of the SunSational Pools and Spas Chevrolet Camaro abruptly shut off as he raced down the back straight. The broken ignition part cost Knudtson a chance at three wins in a row as Jamie Fuller got his first win of the season in the NASCAR Sportsman class, leaving Knudtson with the points lead as the only two-time winner so far in 2006. "It was a fifteen-dollar part that took maybe ten minutes to fix," Knudtson said after the race. "We had it fixed before we loaded the car on the trailer, but that doesn't help. Mark Mathias didn't win, but he gained a lot of points on us. Clint Montanio had problems, too, so he fell out of the top three. Both of those guys are liable to win one this season." The results shook up the points behind Knudtson as Mathias moves into second, just six points behind Knudtson, while Montanio's ninth place dropped him from second to fourth behind Tator Mason. Mason trails the leader, Knudtson, by 19. "Keith Garrett had another good finish," Knudtson said. "It seems like if he doesn't have problems, he's in the top three. I think that's his third finish in third place in five races so far." Garrett is now in the top five, just a couple of points behind Montanio. "Our goal is to put the car on the trailer in one piece," Knudtson noted, "and we did it again this week. With a week off and no repairs to make maybe we can find a little more speed." ### T. Q.
