Donnie Moore sweeps both Races at SAS

San Antonio, Texas – April 15, 2006 – By Neil Upchurch – TPS Race Director

For the first time in the historic racing record of the Texas Pro Sedans, two Feature races were contested on the same race night.

The first and the second 20 lap Feature races were won by Donnie Moore in the familiar #70 VW Scirocco which is owned by George Merrell and headquartered in Kingsland, Texas. Moore led all laps in the “Twin Features” event. The win marks his third consecutive victory in the new 2006 season in which three races have been held.

The second 20 lap Feature race was a “barn burner” at the finish line as the grandstand spectators were treated to a near five way tie for positions two through six as Brice Dishman, Randy Larsen, Tom Johnson, Jesse Sandoval and Jack Dishman were all trading paint at the finish line. It was the most hotly contested runner-up battle in the more than 30 years of TPS racing history.

The Texas Pro Sedans was the largest class at SAS on April 15. In the TPS driver’s meeting, USRA Owner and President and SAS track operator Terry Dickerson told the drivers that “TPS is the largest touring series in Texas”. The event sported an entry list of 26 cars. 23 cars signed in at the SAS pit gate. Kevin Hallman crashed and John Leonard’s blew an engine in practice. The first feature race presented a starting field of 21 TPS four cylinder stock cars. The second Feature race had a reduced starting field of 19 Texas Pro Sedans due to attrition from the first Feature race.

By contesting two races on the same date, the TPS driver point standings were shuffled like a deck of cards. With his performance in each of the Twin Features races, Donnie Moore extends his lead in the 2006 Texas Pro Sedans driver championship points chase.

Defending Champion Sergio Hexsel placed third in the first feature but sees his TPS points standings slip by not competing in the second 20 lap Feature race at San Antonio Speedway. His #20 VW Rabbit experienced engine failure at the finish line in race one and could not make it to the starting grid for race two. He is now 7th in TPS points.

The San Antonio based Texas Pro Sedans touring series will return to the Alamo City and San Antonio Speedway on July 15. That event will again feature the TPS four cylinder stock cars in another Twin Feature race format.

The next Texas Pro Sedans race will be at Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday, April 29.
