Sirizzotti Tops Early In Texas Super Racing Series Rookie Race

By: Pat Mayberry

Fifteen year old Kyle Sirizzotti took the first step toward the Texas Super

Racing Series "Rookie of the Year" title with his seventh place finish in

the season opening KMAC 75. Sirizzotti had the top rookie qualifying time

earning the outside pole only.003 off the time of Chris Schild. Sirizzotti

ran in the top 5 most of the night before a late race solo spin dropped him

to the rear of the field. But smart driving allowed Sirizzotti the chance

to get past some of the field before the checkers.

Sixteen year old Cody Smith also had a good first outing with the series,

capturing a ninth place finish for the night. Smith could be a formidable

foe this week as the series returns to Thunder Hill Raceway, the track where

Smith won both "Rookie of the Year" and series champion titles in the Hobby

Stock division in 2005.

After the first race only twenty-eight points separate the rookie class.

Currently Sirizzotti leads Smith by 3 points, followed by Shane Harris at

-16, Robert Walton at -22, Adam Haugh at -25 and Craig Sellman at -28. The

2005 rookie class looks like they are not only going to have the most

visible rookie battle in Texas, but also may challenge for a few victories

along the way.

The next stop for the Texas Super Racing Series is Saturday, April 15 for

the "Robert Reyes Memorial 75," presented by Smiley's. TXRacing.com will

present the first "Rookie of the Race" award following this race. Pit gates

open at 10 AM and racing begins at 5:00 PM. To follow the Rookie of the

Year battle and all the Texas Super Racing Series news, please visit their
