TEXANA RACEWAY PARK For Immediate Release: April 7, 2006

Season Points Race Fires Up at Texana Raceway Park - by Bill Morris (512 914-5551)

When the green flag waved to start the first race of the season at the Texana Raceway Park it also signaled the start of a points race that will end the last week in September. At that time the drivers with the most points will be crowned the Track Champion in their class. A total of nine drivers will earn the title of 2006 Track Champion. Drivers earn points for each race that they run during the season, so only a consistent performance in every event will keep them in the running for the season’s top honors.

With 13 more events to come, only two of last year’s champions are leading in their divisions. Justin Bloom, a teenager from Blessing, remains at the top of the Mini-Stock Division, and Ken Densman of Victoria continues to lead the Super Stock drivers.

In the Hot Stock Trucks, Inez’s Bob Ort continues his winning ways and is tied with Victoria’s Kirk Loos for the top spot in the point standings. Another consistent visitor to the winners circle is Victoria’s Kevin Migura in his Late Model. In 2005 Kevin started competition mid-season at Texana Raceway Park, and while he turned in a number of wins he was not able to make up the points earned by other drivers earlier in the year and top honors in the Late Model class were captured by Port Lavaca’s Randy Kacir.

Opening night for past champions in the Dwarf Car division was a disaster with Mike Christians, the 2005 Champion, and 2006 Champion Frank Fruia, both posting DNF’s in the opening feature event. On top of the division point standings following the season’s opener is Gary Hanson of West Columbia. This is a very competitive division with any number of drivers being capable of winning the weekly events or the final big prize at the end of the season.

In other Stock Car action, last year’s Bomber Track Champion, Jonathan Arterberry trails the 2005 runner-up Monty Chamberlain by just five points. This close competition will undoubtedly continue throughout the season. Only 40 points separate the top five drivers in the Street Stock division. Following the first event, Edna’s James Jennings leads his Edna neighbor G. W. Hessong by twenty points, with Rosharon’s John Gay just five points behind second place

In the IMCA Sport Modified action, 2005 track Champion Vince Loudon trails Aaron Hudgeons of Cuero by one point. The growing number of these cars should make the contest for the top honor close and heated throughout the 2006 season. In the “big” IMCA Mods Brian Brooks made his first trip to the winners circle in the season opener and ended up leading the division points race. The regulars in this division are challenged weekly by visitors in search of national points, so it will take a few weeks to establish the challenger for the 2006 track champion title.

The next time drivers will have an opportunity to compete for Track Championship Points will be Saturday night, April 15th, starting at 8:00pm The Texana Raceway Park is located 2 miles Southeast of Edna, Texas on state Highway 111.
