This Saturday night, April 1st, the Jr Mini Stocks will take to the ¼ high banked dirt track in Killeen, Tx for their first race. Jr Mini Stocks are a unique class of race cars at Texas Thunder Speedway. They are the only class that has an age limit. Drivers in this highly competitive and safe class need to be between 13 and 15 years of age. Other tracks have a similar class, but Texas Thunder Speedway does it with a twist. All cars that are Jr Mini Stock legal can also be raced in the regular Cottman Transmissions Mini Stock Class. This allows for truly family racing. Mom or Dad can race the car with the Mini Stock class, and then son or daughter can take over the same car and drive it in the Jr. Mini Stock races. This give a racing family more bang for their buck! Due to insurance regulations, the minimum age of a Jr Mini Stock driver has been increased to 13. This still allows speedy youngsters two years to hone their driving skills, before moving up. Nice thing is, they can take the car with them as they move up to the Mini Stock class. Judging for the 2006 “Best Appearing Car Award” will be done Saturday night, so hopefully the cars will look as good as they are fast. Joining the Jr Mini Stocks for the race program, sponsored by Hertz, will be the Dodge Country IMCA Modifieds, Corbin & Associates, Attys IMCA Stock Cars, Hertz IMCA SportMods, Street Stocks, and the Cottman Transmissions Mini Stocks. New for fans this year is the ability to purchase their tickets online with a credit card. Just go to the Texas Thunder Speedway web site, and click on the “Buy and Print Tickets” button. Also you can use your Visa or Master Card in the tracks souvenir and concession stands. Gates open at 6:00 PM and racing starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $3 for kids 6-12 and kids under 6 are free. Season passes are available as well.
