You'll get varying opinions about whether or not a deep cycle battery is of any added benefit in a race car running without the alternator. My understanding is that a deep cycle battery is designed to run in an environment where the battery will be completely depleted and recharged numerous times - like in a boat running a trolling motor. I believe the yellow top and blue top optimas are deep cycle. You can't go wrong with any of them, but the red top should do just fine. ....or run an alternator.
