In Memory of My Son

Curtis Reece Shaffer

July 3, 1971 – February 6, 2006

A small man with a large heart.

His love for racing was evident throughout his life.

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Pennington Funeral Home Chapel for Curtis Reece Shaffer of San Marcos, TX. Reece, a small man, with a large heart, expressed his love for auto racing and his family. Reece, a man of little stature was a familiar figure at Thunder Hill Raceway, San Antonio Speedway, and many other asphalt and dirt tracks throughout the Central Texas area. His love for competition was evident always. As a High School Senior graduate from Plano East High School, Reece competed in wrestling against individuals with superior size. Though Reece was only 4’4” tall and weighed 108 lbs, small, but his determination, strength and competitive nature led him to the city championship. As a weight lifting competitor in the Little People of America (LPA) Dwarf Athletic Association championship, Reece recorded a lift of 275 lbs in the bench press. This was another marvel for a man of only 108 lbs. His desire for competition led Reece from motor-cross, to go-karts to drag racing and then to dirt and asphalt racing throughout Texas.

His love for his wife Jody Shaffer and his two beautiful girls, Casandra Marie (age 6) and Sarah Grace (age 3) will be remembered always. His family was the light of his heart and the force within his spirit.

Reece will be missed sorely by his family and everyone whose life was touched by his smiles and friendship. He is survived also by his mother, Jenni Shaffer, father, Joe Shaffer, and sister, Christy Shaffer.

The Curtis Shaffer Memorial Fund for benefit of Casandra and Sarah Shaffer, has been established at the A+ Federal Credit Union, P. O. Box 14867, Austin, TX 78761-9932.
