'Bad Brad' Lays Claim to King Honors

Evans beats Elam for the top spot in MIR Top 10

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Sept. 28) - Memphis International Raceway (MIR) crowned its King of the Track during Midnight Madness after "Bad" Brad Evans beat David Elam in the heads-up final.

For his accomplishment, Evans took home a $500 cash prize, a plaque, the MIR King of the Track belt and a big target on his back for 2016.

"Friday night was just the beginning of a program that will be going in exciting directions in 2016," said MIR VP and GM Pam Kendrick.

Both Brad Evans and David Elam wanted to get their hands of the Memphis International Raceway King of the Track belt, but it was Evans who was the winner.

In the final, Evans squared off against David Elam. Both staged cleanly and appear to get off the line at the same time. Evans stayed smooth from end to end while, Elam lost time when his car broke out of its wheelstand, dropped down and went back up on its rear wheels.

Evans will be the No. 1 when the program resumes in the spring. The rest of the top eight will be Elam in second, Keith Fowler in third, Danny Obermark the No. 4, Josh Elam No. 5, Rica Obermark in the No. 6 spot, Tommy Jackson Jr. in seventh and Ray Gardocki in the No. 8 spot. The Nos. 9 and 10 spots will be up grabs during qualifying when the program returns at Street Warz.

This week, the focus at the drag strip will be on bracket racing as the IHRA Team Finals get started Thursday and will culminate on Sunday with the team championship. Gates open at 8 a.m. Friday-Sunday and spectator admission is $15 per day with children 6-12 $5 and kids 5 and under free.

On Saturday racing returns to the paved oval when the Great American Racing Series E3 Spark Plugs 100 comes to town. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the main race starts at 3 p.m. Adult admission is $20, children 6-12 $5 and kids 5 and under free. Coupons for $5 off adult admission are available at the RaceMIR Facebook page.
