Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals Presented by Good Vibrations Qualifying Results

 

 

 

 

NISKU, Alberta (July 18, 2015) -The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations kicked off today at Castrol Raceway. The day long event featured two Nitro Jam qualifying sessions and sportsman qualifying. The third qualifying session was cut short due to a late night rain shower. Teams will line-up by the order they last qualified.

 

 

 

Some of the top stories on day one of the largest Canadian drag racing event in Edmonton, Alberta included Canada-native's Mike Pelrine and Craig Pelrine holding the top spots in the qualifying sessions. The nephew and uncle duo posted a 6.534 at 214.49 mph pass and a 6.552 at 206.90 mph pass, respectively, in the second session of the day.

 

 

The AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive points leader, Mike McIntire Jr. lead the way in both qualifying sessions. McIntire and Mark Sanders had the quickest times with McIntire posting a 5.77 at 251.96 mph. Sanders followed it up with a 5.82 second run at 235.60 mph. Last week's winner, Jason Rupert held on to the third position with a 5.85 at 243.11 mph.

 

 

 

Jet Dragster competition completed one round of qualifying Saturday evening. Shea Holbrook took the top spot followed by Marisha Falk, Kat Moller and 2014 Jet Dragster Champion Elaine Larsen.

 

 

 

Three new classes were added to the schedule for the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations this weekend. The Pro 6.90, Top Fuel and Pro Mod classes joined the series regulars to compete for an Ironman trophy at Castrol Raceway.Caleb Tebb topped the board in the Pro 6.90 class with a 6.91 second run at 202.89 mph. Mike Gondziola qualified in first-place running a 6.02 second pass at 237.59 mph in Pro Mods. In the Top Fuel class, Bruce Litton had the top speed of the evening - 5.18 seconds at 268.34 mph.

 

 

 

Tomorrow will include three rounds of eliminations for the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations and sportsman racing throughout the day. Sportsman racing starts at 9 a.m. and pre-race ceremonies for Nitro Jam eliminations is at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at the gate.
