This is written by one of the best racing authors out there, Matt McLaughlin.

If you are a "new generation" NASCAR fan, you will probably not like this article.

If you don't like the direction Little France is taking NASCAR, you may find this interesting.

This guy is one of them guys who lives in the "heart" of NASCAR country and does not like change. He also wrote an article basically saying why Texas doesn't deserve a 2nd date. In my opinion he is just some old guy who thinks NASCAR is still a redneck carolina sport. Here is another of his works of "art". http://www.racingone.com/column.asp?artnum=19369

Its all about the buck....what started out as moonshine runners has evolved into the rolling Pepsi can, "NO" I'm not going to drive the big brown truck, To the reporter getting an interview from the back deck lid.

The same drivers , that maybe 10 years ago would be at the race shop working on the car- are now having to jet off to do a promo. The same drivers that have a PR person, telling them what to say , and how to say it. Speaking of that- where has the victory circle hat guy been? Have you noticed how long a driver will sit in the car before he gets out.. ( he always is making sure the 1 or 4 caps are sized right, his hair is just so, he understands what his PR person has reminded him to say) I do not know about you, but If I won a race-I would be out of the car and on top before it rolled to a stop.

I respect every driver who straps themselves in and speeds off into the turn. NASCAR has allowed this sport to go from a driver/fan sport to a sponsor/consumer sport.

If every car was primer gray with a number, I would still watch and love the racing. It would not matter to me, I am a race fan.

Before you know it, NASCAR will be going WWF on us....."SUNDAY SMACK-DOWN"....heck they may even stop the race for commercials. (The BIG sponsors would like that). To me it is getting silly, it is getting away from why I enjoy racing. When I am rooting for my driver who is running second- I could really care less about the VIAGRA commercial, or the UPS commercial(what part of "NO" do you not understand.) I lost count of the times D.J. said he will not drive it!!!!..

I go to our local tracks on Saturday night to watch real grass roots racing, I tune in on Sunday to catch the commercials..

I'm not a fan of the "new generation" NASCAR, which some might find odd because of my age. But I would rather watch an old race with drivers who didn't whine about every little thing (they just got mad, then got even) and you didn't have to worry about finishing under yellow and the sport was more about the purity of racing than money, money, money. I miss "the good old days."

I'M JUST OF THE OPINION THAT IF YOU SAW THE CALIFORNIA RACE,THEN YOU'VE SEEN KENTUCKY,CHICAGO,AND VEGAS..THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY THE MOST DRULL EVENTS ANY SPORT COULD OFFER..I WOULD RATHER WATCH TENNIS(ALMOST)...I UNDERSTAND DEMOGRAPHICS-BUT WHY DO ALL THE TRACKS HAVE TO BE SO SIMILAR...BY NO MEANS SHOULD ANY OF THESE TRACKS HAVE A 2ND DATE OVER ROCKINGHAM AND VERY SOON DARLINGTON NOT HAVING ANY AT ALL...IN TEN YEARS WILL WE SEE THE SAME THING IN DOVER,NEW HAMPSHIRE,OR FOR THAT MUCH BRISTOL OR MARTINSVILLE-BECAUSE THEY CAN GET 250,000 SEATS AROUND IT LIKE THEY CAN KENTUCKY..IF YOU SAY IT WON'T HAPPEN,ALLYOU GOT TO DO IS LOOK AT NORTH WILKSBORO AND HICKORY

lets see the future of Cup-next few years all the teams pack up in mooresville and the surrounding areas in the carolinas and move their operations to the central us(example north texas-close to tms cause they can all test there since all short tracks will be gone)-so they will be in between the west coast and east coast-the people left living in the old race team areas of the carolinas will go broke paying for whats left behind-(kind of like austin with the hi-tech bust )-teams will say "Well, when we was racin in the south all the time-the carolinas was the place to live since most of the tracks were around here or not to far away-but now that billy boy runnin the show- we got to go out younder to that shakeyside of the country where the ground shakes from time to time and race more-and them desert places where stuff dont grow and it hot as hell and dusty-and diesel cost 3 bucks now and our trucks drinks to much of it to get the stuff to billys tv show and our jets take alot of juice to go from east to west and back-so we moving to mid america and we sorry this town going to go down the tubes when we leave-but my sponsor said it would save money and we are all for saving money-so we're sorry- it's been fun living here among you folks-but we got to go-and before i forget-if yall aint in the cheese line at the armory gettin some free cheese cause you happen to have a job- be sure to buy my sponsors products so we can keep racin-ok-:P:D:P:D:P:D:P:D:P:D

I agree that the short tracks are a lot more fun to watch. And even though I am damn proud to be a Texan, I am not happy about us getting a 2nd date and taking it away from a better action track. TMS is just not that fun to watch, in my opinion. I would much rather watch local track racing than a freakin' super speedway race.. Those big tracks just don't pack as much punch as the short tracks. I love action! Not wrecking, but rubbing is good. We all know, "rubbin' is racin'." :D

KUDOS to Matt McLaughlin for a great pespective of NA$CAR's new boneheaded ideas. Some of you young(edited by me) haven't got clue what REAL NASCAR racing was, only how it's evolved to this WWE look-alike series it is now. So therefore I don't believe you have any room to comment. At least there is someone as ballsy as me to tell it like it is, instead of being a freaking sheep! When it comes to racing I'm a purist and see that what's happening on and off track is killing the sport. Don't believe me, just look at what happens at most short tracks now days. You've got these Hav-a-wreck(etc.) wannabe's, acting like idiots, using their cars or equipment as weapons. Ya y'all laugh and think, "Man that's kewl(Learn how to spell properly)" when in reality it's only one thing, detrimental to the sport. Mark my words, it won't be long until YOU ARE paying to watch NA$CAR on TV and won't be able to afford ticket prices! Right now my $40 backstretch ticket for TMS in '97 cost me $75 this year, almost double, for the same seat!

Reb my ol friend( notice I didnt say OLD)lol, lol, 1979 Daytona 500 when Cale Yarbourough (spl???) and Bobby Allison went down the back stretch banging the hell out of each other and then fighting with Donnie Allison getting in it was the all time start of the interest of Nascar, this is what got everyone interested in it.Now I agree this stuff happening in todays Nascar is great for ratings, you got to addmitt that most Nascar races have getting so boring that you just watch highlites to see nothing,I applaud people like Stewert and others who arnt affraid to step out of the box and go against Nascars goody two shoes reputaion. Taking away the action tracks to put in Texas Motor Speedway clones all over the U.S. is not what people want in my opinion. I still think Nascar is some what scripted just like WWE for ratings and attention, why havent Nascar parked Stewart for getting into someone for the past month or so,and Little "E" allways winning the plate races. As many have said its ,its turned from a sport to entertainment.watch Dave Despains wind tunnel, this guy tells it like it is and lets who ever tell there view also.Just like tonite the no holds bar Nextell open, many have said they are going to watch just to see Stewart drive into evryone for a MILLION DOLLARS. I SAY WE PUT NASCAR ON A FEW DIRT TRACKS AND THROW IN A FIQURE 8 RACE TOO.lmao :P:D

I would like to add to Boerneracehound50's closing comment....Have the drivers draw which car they will drive----then do the figure 8----blindfolded!

J/K of course. But it is turning into the WWN--->Wacky-Wrecking-Nextel

BRH50, While you are correct about the 79 Daytona finish, that was more the exception and not the norm. While it may have boosted interest, it surely wasn't the begining. Plus it was a last lap shootout for the win, instead of someone trying to win on the second lap, then bragging about doing it.

Shouldn't you be out somewhere with a picket sign? LOL :P:lol:

LMAO @ Crazyhorse, Evey time I see that promo, I just hang my head in shame! :(

Id rather see TMS stripped of both of its dates and Richmond and Bristol get those 2 dates split between them. Darlington provided much better side by side racing and so did Rockingham.

good story in austin paper this morning(sunday) about nascar and dropping the carolina tracks-it said the gov wrote france a letter about the tourist impact it would have on his state(great loss of $$$$) but france did it any way-also talked about they are worried the teams will pull out also- said some are already being courted by other states-the gov stated the bottom line to all this is GREED & MONEY-on another note-wonder if jack ever got his shoe out of kurts butt last nite after the 97 punted biffle and tore up alot of cars-good thing the 17 won-the million might ease jacks pain some

If things in Nascar keep going in the same direction Before long you will see "Grey Pupon" on the hood of the #29 car.

I for one do not want NASCAR to become a Wine & Cheese croud.

I for one do not agree with this guy, but I do not like to see Nascar take the emotion out of the sport.

Can you imagine watching Hockey without any fights?????????

I do not think Nasacar should try to be so prim & proper.

Just my 2 1/2 cents.....
