“Double Double NASCAR Night” means Double Action at Houston Motorsports Park this Saturday

Houston, TX (July 15, 2014) – Double features are on tap for all NASCAR Stock Car Racing divisions this Saturday at Houston Motorsports Park as well as the Eco Stocks, Legends and Bandoleros. This gives drivers twice as many chances to swap paint on the tight, 3/8-mile paved oval known as the “Palace of Power.” And if history is any indicator, there surely will be plenty of not-so-friendly paint swapping before the last checkered flag flies.

The other “Double” of the “Double Double” means double value for NASCAR fans with two adult admissions for price of one $12 adult admission. Add those savings to the fact that children 12 and under are free and that hot dogs, cokes and beer are only one dollar each and you have a very affordable recipe for an exciting family night out.

Of course, double features also means double points for drivers as they race for championship honors and prize money at the end of the NASCAR season in their respective classes.

Michael Kourkoubes is on a roll in the NASCAR Fiesta Modified division, winning two of the three most recent feature events for the super-quick, ground-hugging Modifieds, but is only leading in the point standings by a scant nine points over steady Zach Knowles and by 27 points over veteran Jason Morman.

Besides Knowles and Morman, there are a dozen, or more Modified drivers capable of winning one or both of the twin features including Zak Hausler, Joe Aramendia, Johnny Walker and, well, nearly the whole roster. Look for the NASCAR Fiesta Modified point standings to get re-arranged this Saturday.

In the NASCAR BWFS Coke Truck class, there is a six-driver battle for the top spot. Charles Evans, Jr, is on top for the moment, but Kyle Books , David Webster, Travis Benson , Mason Teague and Mike Coursey are all well within striking distance as we approach the halfway point in the season. Look for any one of these drivers to move up the list on Saturday.

Last time out (July 5) race fans witnessed the long-awaited debut of a “new style” NASCAR American Muscle Car (AMCAR) in the newly-created NASCAR division at HMP. Clayton Green, in a sharp-looking new Camaro built by his father and veteran-driver Steve Green, finished third in the feature behind points-leader David Webster and Nathan Demski. Green was battling Demski for second at one point and the car looked fast down the straights.

“That was our first time out with the car and we need to work on the setup a little more,” the 17 year-old Green said. “I know it’s going to be plenty fast once we get it dialed in and we’re looking to win with it this week.”

Also on tap are double 25-lap features for the Legends, twin 15-lap events for the rough-and-tumble Eco Stocks and two 15-lappers for the quick little Bandoleros.

Racing at the park-like facility starts promptly at 7 pm and normally finishes by 10:30 pm.

Houston Motorsports Park is located at 11620 North Lake Houston Parkway in Northeast Houston.
