  1. Last Saturday at I37 my dad made a comment about wanting to race a compact. So I'd like to surprise him with a compact. Not looking for anything special, basically just legal and semi running/driving, don't mind doing some work on it. I am 99% certain it'll be a one time thing for him. He'll be 2 laps down on lap 3, pull off, and never get in it again. But his hand will never stop waving to the crowd. Just an idea to do something for my dad. It'll likely be back for sale after his first night so you could even buy it back. Let me know what you have.

    Thanks,

    Dillon Coyne

Unless I missed it, IMCA provides "every" modified measurement except width?  Anyway, the mall manager just informed their bollards are 6' wide.

Hopefully we squeeze some sorta race car inside? It'll be a huge promotional opportunity for Texana Raceway!

Please let me know what you find out Nathan.

    Tx, Jeb

    Dwarf cars are 60"-61" wide

I've never raced on a circle track before, and decided to try out the EcoStocks this year.  I've been road course racing for the last 10 years.  I've never been paid a single dollar for a win, place, or show, let alone getting my entry fee back, which can be several hundred for a sprint race weekend to $1650 for a 14-hour endurance race on the Daytona road course.  So I was pleased as punch to get $100 for taking 3rd place at the last race.

Granted I have never raced a road course, but this is the difference I see in the two. I gather that most road courses are basically racer-funded at the amateur level. If you want to have a track day or race, the money comes from the racers. Using Harris Hill, MSR, and Hallett as examples, they do not have grandstand seating, where circle tracks usually have quite large grandstands. Basically, the road race is for the driver, while the circle track is for the driver AND the fan. There is some admission and concession income there that is not generated by the road course. Regardless as to whether that's profit, it's at least cash-flow.

That being said, I'm definitely not complaining about these payouts. My class races for $75/car. Just pointing out what I see.

There must be a cheaper way to go like going to a harder tire or no slicks other that Pro-Mods.

I would love to see it, but there's no way that would happen. The superstocks, trucks, and outlaw-limited-super-restricted-open-sport-early-late-stocks run slicks out east. People have too much time and money invested in tuning their cars around the slicks to revert.

  5. This has nothing to do with the title of this post or HMP, but to do with racing as a whole, from a racer and fan.

I cannot stand watching the same 2 guys win a class week in and week out, no matter whether it's "lower level" or "upper level" (as if the "level" actually corresponds to a drivers ability, hahahahaha). Yeah there are drivers that don't have it in them; but there are also a lot that do and will not get the chance to show it. The playing field has got to be leveled somehow. I may be biased, being self-funded, but nothing irks me worse than a steering-wheel-holder takings Ws because he or she has ride support. If a guy does his due-diligence in the shop on his own car, and is a decent driver, he should be able to have a shot to win.

From a racer's perspective that knows most of the names and cars, I want to be able to sit down in the stands and watch a race and NOT be able to tell you the top 3 before the race even starts.
