  1. Here we are 2 days away from another scheduled Pelican and it's time for the dreaded weather talk...

Short version: Be here Thursday AND FRIDAY nights! There will NOT be enough 'showers' to rain it out this time. You may hear or read some forecasts or comments that make it sound worse than it is but it ain't at all so don't buy what they're selling this time. 99% chance of getting practice in tomorrow and 90% of getting The Pelican IN Friday night as scheduled!

That translates into... YOU GOTTA BE HERE FOR THIS ONE!.

Very slight chances of showers after midnight Thursday and before noon Friday. Total expected is less than a tenth of an inch. Grounds are dusty right now. Track is in great shape and of course watered and will be fine for Thursday's practice.

Friday afternoon will be partly sunny with southerly breezes and high temp of 75! Regardless of what falls in the morning, the water truck will be busy and we'll have another AWESOME TRACK SURFACE for THE PELICAN FRIDAY NIGHT!!!

Next chances of rain sit at 40% and happen well after midnight Friday and really closer to sunrise Saturday than anything else. Even then only 1/4 inch max.

The record here to date has been if we get everybody down here and start a big show, WE FINISH IT. Drivers get paid & the fans see A RACE!

There is no reason weather-wise that I can see today for anyone who would come otherwise to change their mind and not to be here THURSDAY AND FRIDAY!!!

  7. Was wondering who might be racing Open Wheel Modifieds on July 1st, 2nd and 4th preferable on American Racer KK704 tires and something close to USRA/USMTS rules....

We have Sunday the 3rd anchored well with the COMP Cams Doug Murphrey Memorial IX Modified Race with $5000 to win and a purse with awards just for Modifieds (and a one day show/NO entry fee deal at that) worth $26,000!

But what to link up with at other tracks to make the travel more fun and easier to take??? Ark-La-Tex Speedway -- like the name implies -- is located where Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas all meet on the map. So...

    From the WEST:

On Friday, July 1st, RPM Speedway of Texas is running USRA Mods in Crandall (just southeast of Dallas). $600 to win/$150 to start.

Lonestar Speedway near Kilgore, Texas is running a $1500-to-win/100 to start/no entry fee Modified race using Ark-La-Tex Speedway rules on Saturday, July 2nd and you'd only be an hour and 20 min from Ark-La-Tex. OR...

The legendary Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas has a Texas Outlaw Modified Series race (USRA sanctioned) on Saturday, July 2nd that pays $1200-$1500 to win depending on car count and you'd have a 3 hour and 15 min tow from there to Ark-La-Tex.

    Monday the 4th???

    From the SOUTH:

Thunder Valley Speedway in west central Louisiana (Glenmora near Fort Polk) is racing Modifieds Saturday night, July 2nd with rules that fit the Ark-La-Tex show and pays $750 to win/$50 to start. That makes a good starting part for Houston area cars.

    What else ya got?

    From the EAST:

I've heard that Hattiesburg, Mississippi is racing the class on Friday night the 1st and Jackson Motor Speedway is racing them on Saturday the 2nd with a COMP Cams Late Model show too. JMS is 4 hours from Ark-La-Tex Speedway. Then on the way home, LA36 Speedway in LaCombe, Louisiana (on the Mississppi line north of New Orleans) is paying $1000 to win on MONDAY the 4th. That's a nice combo of tracks for Mississippi, Alabama or Florida panhandle cars.

    From the NORTH:

Anyone know of a USRA-type Modifieds around the Tulsa-Fort Smith area on Saturday, July 2nd? And maybe one on Monday the 4th too? Can start it on Thursday, June 30th in Springfield! UMP Summer National Late Models with $1000-to-win USRA Modifieds! Then Friday night, July 1st, over to Humboldt, Kansas for $2000-to-win USRA Mods!

The Salina Highbanks Speedway, east of Tulsa has The Freedom Classic on July 1st & 2nd featuring MARS/MLRA Late Models and "A" Mods are a support class both nights. Don't know the details on the pay or whether or not they are independent one-day shows but I think their rules either are or are close to USRA.

That sets up you to head to the very southwest corner of Arkansas/northwest corner of Louisiana (not at all far from the southeast corner of Oklahoma either) for *SUNDAY* the 3rd.

    Monday the 4th???

Tracks in the Ark-La-Tex area racing that weekend:

On Saturday, July 2nd three of our closest tracks to Ark-La-Tex will be racing Modifieds and a fourth one will be in action on Friday night with the class for those who want to get away earlier and make it an even longer weekend.

Lonestar Speedway near Kilgore, Texas -- one hour and 20 minutes from Vivian -- will have the SUPR Late Models on July 2nd along with a $1500 to win/$100 to start, no entry fee Modified support class show.

Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana will also be in action with Modifieds that Saturday night and they are located just 40 minutes south of ALT. $800 to win/$80 to start.

Texarkana 67 Speedway on the Arkansas side will also be racing on Saturday with Modifieds as one of the classes. It's located one hour north of Ark-La-Tex. $400 to win/$60 to start

On Friday night, July 1st, Timberline Speedway located 20 minutes west of Texarkana and one hour north of Ark-La-Tex Speedway hosts the SUPR Late Models with Modifieds running as a support class. From there, it's either 35 minutes over to 67 Speedway, one hour and 30 minutes down to Boothill or one hour and 40 minutes to Lonestar for Saturday's races. All 4 of these tracks use the same type of Mod rules that the DMM uses.

Like casinos? Shreveport-Bossier City is loaded with them. Most of them are centered around the river between the two cities and all have hotels. They are about 45 minutes from Ark-La-Tex Speedway, only 20 minutes or so from Boothill and about an hour and 10 minutes from Lonestar.

Jefferson, Atlanta, Marshall and Texarkana are other places with hotels near by. Texarkana is one hour north of Ark-La-Tex and would work out well for Timberline-67-ALT. Jefferson and Marshall would be great locations to base out of for Lonestar, Boothill and then Vivian while Atlanta and Jefferson works well for just about any combination of the tracks you want to run.

  8. Ark-La-Tex Speedway and the Murphrey family are proud to announce that a new sponsor has joined this year's COMP Cams Doug Murphrey Memorial...

Big thank you to Forest Hill Growers and Adam Willis for the Forest Hill Growers Pole Award that will pay **$500** to this year's pole sitter!

The Thursday practice night is just 3 weeks from tonight and we start racing for the pole three weeks from tomorrow!!!

  9. At the Land of 3-wide, Ark-La-Tex Speedway!

May is Late Model month at Ark-La-Tex Speedway where there has never been a bad Late Model race, as both of our May dates feature popular mid-south Late Model series.

Then 2 weeks after the last one, we have our only June race but wow... if you're only going to run one, make it the COMP Cams Doug Murphrey Memorial $10,000-to-win Modified race!!!

  10. Hats off to the USMTS Modifieds and Heart O' Texas Speedway in Waco in last night! HoT maybe a little 1/4 mile dirt track, but you'd be hard pressed to find a feature on any oval track in the state of Texas better than this one. This is the best feature I've ever seen there by far. If you haven't watched it yet, take 10 minutes and check out this 40-lapper!
