Texas Pride: Two Texas-based companies will return as the primary partners for Austin Wayne Self this weekend at Circuit of the Americas (COTA). The Statesville, N.C.-based team will sport the signage of GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions on the No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado for the ninth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race of the season.

Self consider this weekend’s race the most important of the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Self is a native of Austin, Texas with his marketing partners on his No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado all from the state of Texas. Self has spent the week leading up to the race in Austin with marketing partner obligations and as well as media responsibilities for COTA promoting the Truck Series race as an Austin, Texas native. The team is expected to have over 100 people attending the race in the grandstands throughout the 3.4-mile road course.

Austin Wayne Self Truck Series Circuit of the America Stats: Saturday afternoon’s Toyota Tundra 225 will mark Self’s Truck Series debut at the highly touted Circuit of the Americas.

Austin Wayne Self Truck Series Road Course Stats: At NASCAR Camping World Truck Series tracks classified as a road course, Self has made six starts throughout his career with one top-10 finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, while also carrying an average finishing position of 14.2.

Darlington Raceway | LiftKits4Less.com 200 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway, Austin Wayne Self made his 115th NCWTS start.

After starting 12th, Self battled the race track in his No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado. Avoiding a massive crash on a late-race restart, Self was able to cling to the top-10 by taking the checkered flag in ninth earning his second top-10 finish of the 2021 season.

Eight races complete, Self and his Statesville, N.C.-based AM Racing have two top-10s, four top-15s, six top-20s and eight top-23 finishes.

To The Point(s): Entering COTA, Self sits 12th in the championship standings with 178 points earned and a one-position gain following Darlington.

Just 22 points separate Self from 10th in the championship standings currently held by Johnny Sauter and 69 points in the arrears from fifth locked by Matt Crafton with 14 races remaining this season. AM Racing also secures 13th in the NCWTS owner standings.

Calling the Shots: Ryan Salomon will continue to lead Austin Wayne Self and the AM Racing team this weekend at COTA. This weekend marks his 12th race as crew chief for Self and in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. During his tenure, he guided Self to an average finish of 15.1 during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, respectively.

Career Rundown: Since 2016, Self has competed in 114 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races, delivering two top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. He finished a career-best 12th in the championship standings in 2018.

Spanning six years of Truck Series competition, he maintains an average finish of 18.5.

On Darlington Raceway: “It was a great night for everyone at AM Racing in our throwback No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet. Ryan (Salomon, crew chief) really did a great job with adjustments and we avoided that major accident on the restart to find ourselves inside the top-10. I would have liked to have grabbed a top-five, but we’ll take ninth and look ahead to my hometown track of Circuit of the Americas.”

On 2021 Season: “We are right there on the cusp of making the Truck Series Playoffs. It’s going to take a lot of work, but we have made great progress so far during the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. We’ve been very solid to the start 2021, we just need to keep after it and hope we’re able to produce more of the same or even bigger results into the upcoming summer stretch.”

Race Information:

The Toyota Tundra 225 (41 laps | 139.81 miles) is the ninth of 22 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races on the 2021 schedule. Practice begins on Fri., May 21st from 2:05 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. Qualifying is set for the following morning beginning at 8:05 a.m. The field will take the green flag later in the day shortly after 12:00 p.m. CT with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 90.
