Stock Car Shootout 100 this Weekend at CSP

by Lonnie Wheatley

PEORIA, Ariz. (September 1, 2015) – The highly competitive Stock Car division takes center stage at Canyon Speedway Park this weekend with the Stock Car Shootout 100 unfolding over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

With a $2,000 winner’s share up for grabs to the winner of the Arizona Differential Pure Stocks “Stock Car Shootout 100”, the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades, AMA Mod Lites and Dwarf Cars will be in action on both nights as well.

Both nights of action get under way at 7:00 p.m.

The Stock Car Shootout 100 portion of the weekend gets under way with qualifying and twin 15-lap Shootouts on Saturday night that will set the stage for Sunday’s $2,000-to-win Stock Car Shootout 100 lapper atop the 1/3-mile clay oval.

After Matt Martinez topped the previous pair of Stock Car Shootouts, Modified ace Ricky Thornton, Jr., took top Shootout 100 honors last year.

Martinez has posted a handful of Stock Car feature wins this year at CSP, yet holds only a three-point lead over Zack Madrid in the championship points chase. Madrid had his bid for a third consecutive win on August 15 halted by Chris McCurdy, Jr., who ran his win total to four with the triumph.

Thornton, Jr., ranks as the only driver to post multiple IMCA Modified wins in the regular season at CSP with three wins while the other six wins have been spread amongst a half dozen different drivers. Garrett Funk, a winner on June 20, holds a 22-point advantage over Shawn Zelenka in the title chase. Ryan Roath topped the most recent event on August 15.

The Renegades have offered up eight different winners in nine events with Daniel Romero atop the point charts with a 32-point advantage over Chuck Thornton. Romero ranks as the only driver to post multiple wins with triumphs on March 14 and May 9.

Austin Kuehl topped the most recent Mod Lite action on July 11 while Tony Martin won the latest Dwarf Car main event on August 1.

Tickets for this weekend’s Stock Car 100 Shootout are just $16 on both Saturday and Sunday, with a $3 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
