Nester wins the ICAR Broaster Chicken 50 at Baer Field Speedway

Well Worth The Wait: Brian Nester Wins Broaster Chicken 50 Presented by Burkett-Nester Racecars - Baer Field Speedway hosts first ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division race of 2015

 

Fort Wayne, Indiana (Saturday, May 23, 2015): After a two-week wait, the rescheduled Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division season opener, the Broaster Chicken 50 Presented by Burkett-Nester Racecars was finally completed on Saturday, May 23rd. The fast 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval of at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana served as hosts. The original date of May 9th was postponed due to rain and thunderstorms that plagued the famed Summit City speed plant after Qualifying was completed.

 

This in turn forced ICAR and BFS President, Dave Muzzillo to postpone the event to the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend. In addition, this was also the first ICAR sanctioned points race since August 7th, 2009 when 2013 Tour Champion, Tim Burkett went to victory lane. On both accounts, it was well worth the wait as in a thrilling 50-lap main, Brian Nester, the all-time career wins leader in ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour history notched milestone win #20.

 

The Hamilton, Indiana veteran in his #11 Burkett-Nester Racecars / Extreme Blower Spreader Entry took the lead from Bud Adams on lap 18 and the 39-year-old driver held off Adams and Two-Time Baer Field Speedway Track Champion and Current Points Leader in the tracks weekly Emma Warehouse Modifieds, Scott Coe to score the landmark victory. Adams hung on for second as Coe finished third. Tim Burkett and Jason Parish completed the top five. Parish scored his third straight M.P.H. Promotions Rookie of the Race Award in three overall ICAR events held so far in 2015.

 

Trei Deubel was sixth as Veteran Damon Breedlove, who had to win the Last Chance Race to get into the show, finished seventh after starting 17th. Another Veteran, Dave Nester was eighth after starting 20th as Danny Jackson and early race leader, Matt Dimit completed the top 10. Dan Loughan started 24th and earned the Allstar Performance Hard-Charger Award with his 11th place finish. Mike Miller received the Genuine Broaster Chicken Hard-Luck award for his violent crash on lap 24 that saw his machine roll over four times. He was ok after the incident.

 

Back on May 9th, the originally scheduled date of the race, and in Economy Auto Parts Qualifying, Bud Adams won the award with a lap measured at an 18.327. His lap equals out to 98.216mph on the 1/2 mile. The ICAR Track Record remains in the possession of Adams who, back on September 18th, 1999, almost 16 years ago, turned in a 17.790. The official car count for the event was 29 teams on the grounds as in the 10-Lap Last Chance Race; Breedlove scored the victory to transfer to the 50-lap main.

The ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division will get a brief vacation before their next race of the 2015 racing season. The fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Angola Motorsport Speedway, located just south of the Indiana / Michigan state line and near the ICAR Home Offices in Angola, Indiana on Saturday, June 6th for the Broaster Chicken 50. The series made two appearances to the Northern Indiana speed plant in 2014 with Jordan Pruitt and 2008 Tour Champion, Scott Coe grabbing the wins.

 

The next event for the ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Northern Division will be a return date to Springport Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 13th. The Broaster Chicken 50 will mark the second of three appearances at the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan. In the tours' first appearance back on May 3rd, 2015 M.P.H. Promotions Rookie of the Year title contender, Jason Parish scored the victory in the Cabin Fever 50 Presented by Genuine Broaster Chicken.
