2012 Street Stock Rules

 

PREFACE

o All equipment is subject to approval by South Texas Speedway track officials. Any alterations or modifications from OEM (stock) not specifically allowed in these rules will be considered illegal.

o It is the racer’s responsibility to keep his/her car legal at all times. Equipment having passed through inspection unobserved will not be considered as approved. South Texas Speedway officials may assess weight penalties for cars and/or parts deemed as not in compliance with these rules.

o These rules are written with the intent to make racing at South Texas Speedway as equal as possible and to promote better competition for all participants while attempting to minimize the cost of participation.

o It is ultimately the obligation of each participant to insure that their conduct and equipment comply with all applicable rules, as they may be amended from time to time. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of automobile racing and in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants or spectators.

 

COMPETITION MODELS

o Any year model passenger car will be allowed including El Caminos, Rancheros, Station Wagons, Camaros, Firebirds, and Trucks. The vehicles must remain stock appearing.

 

BODY REQUIREMENTS

o All glass must be removed.Windshield may be replaced with a minimum of 4 equally spaced metals bars in front of the driver.

o All the following must be removed: carpet, mats, seats, all chrome trim inside and out, headliner, all plastics and any sharp objects.

o All doors must be welded, bolted, or chained shut.

o Firewalls and floorplan must remain stock.

o All holes in the drivers compartment must be properly blocked to avoid debris from entering the drivers area.

o Body can be mounted directly to frame. Rubber body mounts can be removed.

o Bumper must be welded solid.

o Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance. Front fender wells can be removed.

o Hood, doors, and trunk may be gutted. (We recommended leaving the factory door bar in for added protection)

o Hood and trunk hinges must be removed and hood / trunk pins are required. (No bolting)

o An aftermarket nosepiece and tailpiece may be used as a replacement for the OEM stock pieces.

o Spoilers may be added no more than 6 inches in material height.

 

ROLL CAGES

o Roll cage must be 4-post, full perimeter type design and be mounted on the center of the track width. Roll cage Tubing must be mild steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" diameter and .095" in thickness. No threaded joints allowed and all tubing in driver’s compartment must have gussets.

o Roll Cage must be welded to the frame. No bolted or body mounted cages.

o Driver door bars must be as parallel as possible and located perpendicular to the driver to provide maximum protection for the driver. A minimum of 3 door bars not including the frame is required on the driver’s side. (More is recommended.) Passenger side door bars OK.

o Driver’s head must not protrude above cage with helmet on and strapped into car. Welded steel plate above driver’s head is recommended.

o A driver's foot protection bar is OK.

o All bars inside driver’s compartment must be padded.

 

WINDOW NET / ARM RESTRAINTS

o All cars must have a window net or the driver must wear arm restaints.

 

SEAT

o Factory manufactured metal racing bucket seat or original stock seat is allowed. If stock seat is used a rear impact brace must be installed.

 

SEAT BELTS

o Three (3) inch lap belt is mandatory. Both ends of the lap belt must be fastened to the roll cage or frame with high quality minimum 3/8-inch diameter bolts.

o Shoulder harness must not be less than three (3) inches wide and must come from behind drivers seat. Ends must be fastened to the roll cage or frame with high quality minimum 3/8-inch diameter bolts.

o A center crotch belt must be securely mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom and to the lap belt at the top. Where belts pass through the seat edges or seat metal, there must be a grommet installed, be rolled, and /or padded to prevent cutting and chaffing of belts. All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle.

 

TIRES AND WHEELS

o Hoosier G60, American Racer G60, or Southwest Speed Racing Tire 26.0x8.0x15 (60 compound), or D.O.T. approved street tires with the max. size being P 235/70/15 series. Tires may be grooved.

o Wheels will measure no more than 8" width bead to bead. White spokes or stock rims are o.k.

o It is recommended to change the wheel studs to at least 1/2" diameter.

o The eight inch wheels sold by Bassett, Bart, Aero etc. are allowed with any offset.

o One Bead lock will be allowed, it can be used any where on the car.

o All tires do not have to match in size.

o Wheel spacers are allowed.

 

SUSPENSION

o SPRINGS: One steel spring (racing allowed) per wheel only. Minimum 4.5-inches O.D., non-progressive coils only. No torsion bars or air bags.

o SHOCKS: One steel shock per wheel only. Shock must be in OEM mounts and location, mounting spacers are ok.

o Only AFCO, PRO, Bilstein, and Doetsch Tech Street Stock shocks allowed. No rebuildable shocks allowed.

o REAR SUSPENSION: All control arms and mounts must be steel, unaltered OEM, in OEM location, and match frame. Weight jacks allowed in rear only. Lower spring cups must be centered on housing. Control arms may be reinforced, but cannot be shortened or lengthened, must remain OEM length. All control arm bushings may be aftermarket, but no bearing/heim type. Bushings cannot be drilled. No suspension parts may be altered or lightened. No aluminum parts allowed, other than bushings.

o Camero’s may run lowering blocks, must have the stock leaf spring mounts, must maintain the stock pinion angle.

o FRONT SUSPENSION: All components must be steel, unaltered OEM, in OEM location, and match frame. No jack bolts allowed. Adjustable spring buckets are allowed. Must use OEM upper and lower A-frames and mounts. All A-frame bushings may be aftermarket, but no OFFSET or bearing/heim type. ANY STOCK ball joints allowed as long as you do not have to modify the a-frame to make it fit, may be tacked in. Sway bars(optional) must remain mounted in original location both on the frame and the lower control arm, on the control arm side there is no shimming allowed, must have 2 rubber bushings on the sway bar side, 2 rubber bushings on the a-arm side, the spacer between the a-arm and the sway bar can be made of any material, can be any length but must be of equal length .

o The right front A-arm bolts may be replaced to allow camber in the right front wheel. The shock mount bolt can be cut off but no cutting of the A-frame.

 

REAREND

o Must use OEM rear end (bracing optional), must remain stock width. No Ford or floater rear end allowed. Housing end, from control arm mount out, may be modified with 3-inch tubing to accept 9” Ford axle. If Ford axles are used, rearend must remain minimum GM width or maximum 3-inches wider. Steel components only. OEM mounts on lower control arms must remain in OEM location on original 7.5-inch tube housing. Aftermarket axles, mini-spools and C-clip eliminators allowed. Locked rear ends only, no torque dividing differentials allowed. No full or aluminum spools allowed. Pinion angle can not be changed. Any gear ratio allowed but housing must remain unaltered. No quick change devices.

Camero’s must run same pinion angle as GM metric cars.

WEIGHT

o Minimum weight of 3200lbs, after race, with driver. (No Fuel Top off)

o Lead boxes can be welded to the frame rails for securing lead inside.

 

ADDED CAR WEIGHT

o All added weight must be painted white with the car number in a contrasting color and must be bolted to the frame with two (2) bolts, ½ inch minimum diameter. Must be in block form, not less than 10 lbs. (No Pellets). Ballast weights are not allowed in driver’s compartment.

 

ENGINES

o All engines must remain in the stock location.

o All engines must remain stock for that car (GM to GM, Ford to Ford, Chrysler to Chrysler.)

o Engine blocks may be bored for cleanup and repair purposes. All engine sizes must be registered with tech and if any changes are made, tech must be notified.

o All engines must have a stock stroke of 3.48.

o Pistons and Rods must be stock type/replacement. Pistons can be 2 or 4 valve relief.

o Engine must be chained down or have the mounts welded.

o Removal of accessories such as A/C, power steering, emissions, etc. will be allowed.

 

CYLINDER HEADS

o Any Cast iron OEM production straight plug head 62cc minimum combustion chamber size or any aftermarket head with 72cc minimum combustion chamber size , seat angles and valve sizes can not be changed; three angle valve job only (absolutely no casting removal in valve pocket of aftermarket heads for any reason). valve sizes can not be changed. No porting, polishing, or unapproved alterations to ANY cylinder head. Any cast iron OEM Ford and Chrysler heads allowed with valves no larger than 2.04-inch intake and 1.70-inch exhaust. Headers must bolt directly to heads with correct numbers. No vortec, bowtie, SVO, W-2 or aftermarket heads allowed. Flat milling allowed. Guide plates, screw-in studs (3/8” or 7/16” allowed) and polylocks allowed. Stud girdles are allowed. Any rocker arm allowed. Chrysler may use OEM rocker arm bars. Any length push rods allowed.

o 305 head must run dished piston with 305 block.

o No porting or polishing. No angle milling.

o Maximum valve size of 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust.

 

IGNITION SYSTEM

o OEM style ignitions only. GM: HEI distributor (must remain one unit) or point distributor allowed. Ford/Chrysler: may use OEM ignition, including OEM boxes, or HEI distributor. Any module may be used that fits inside the distributor with no alteration. Vacuum advance may be removed and pick-up coil locked. No external coils allowed, unless using point distributor. No GM or aftermarket ignition boxes allowed.

 

INTAKE MANIFOLDS

o Any stock manifold allowed including aluminum, cast, or marine type manifolds. The only aftermarket manifold allowed will be the Edlebrock 2101 performer.

o No gasket matching or porting.

 

 

CAMSHAFT / TIMING

o Non-roller hydraulic cam/lifters only. Hydraulic lifters must remain UNALTERED OEM you can not alter lifter bore. OEM firing order cannot be changed (GM 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2). 540 maximum cam lift. Lifter bores cannot be altered. Must be chain driven, no gear/belt drives.

o Any rocker arm allowed.

 

COOLING SYSTEM

o Aluminum radiator and pulleys are allowed.

o Water pumps must be stock, no aluminum water pumps.

o NO electric fans!

 

CARBURETORS

o Stock carburetors or Holley 4412 500cfm 2bbl only.

o The choke may be removed but all screw holes must be permanently sealed.

o Two (2) return springs are required.

 

EXHAUST

o Chassis style headers or stock manifolds only.

o No gasket matching or porting.

o The metric stock clip style schoenfeld headers #107 are allowed.

 

BATTERY

o Battery may be moved but must be totally enclosed and mounted securely.

 

TRANSMISSIONS

o Only OEM production transmissions allowed. No aftermarket transmissions allowed. No ‘in and out’ boxes or quick change devices allowed. With engine running and car in a still position, must be able to engage car in gear and move forward, then backward. Functioning shift levers must be in OEM location. Transmission fluid coolers allowed. Flywheel, flexplate and converter must be steel.

Automatic: Any OEM automatic transmission allowed. Must use functioning, minimum 10-inch diameter steel torque converter. No direct drives, couplers, valved pumps, or bleeder style valve bodies. Must have at least one forward gear and reverse gear, gears must function. Must have an approved scattershield constructed of .125-inch by three-inch steel, 270 degrees around top of flexplate. GM automatic must be used with GM engine, may be used with Ford or Chrysler engine. Stall converters allowed. Steel OEM style flexplate only, must be bolted directly to end of crankshaft.

Manual: 3, 4 or 5 speed OEM manual transmissions only. All gears must function. Must have functioning 10.5-inch minimum diameter clutch and pressure plate bolted directly to steel flywheel. These components must rotate, consistant with engine rpm, while car is in any gear. Must use explosion-proof steel bellhousing 180 degrees around top of clutch and flywheel. No mini-clutches or couplers. Minimum 9-inch diameter Ford clutch allowed. Hydraulic slave cylinder/throw out bearing allowed.

BRAKES

o Must be steel OEM, operative three wheel. Must maintain minimum OEM dimensions for hubs/rotors and calipers, cannot be lightened. Bolt pattern may be changed. 0.625-inch studs allowed. Additional proportioning valve (in-line type) allowed, must be out of driver reach.

FUEL

o Pump gasoline or racing fuel.

o No alcohol, methanol, or nitrous oxide.

o No fuel additives.

 

FUEL CELLS / TANKS - LINES

o All fuel cells / tanks must be located in the trunk of the car.

o Fuel cell / tank must be securely mounted to rear frame.

o All fuel lines must be routed outside of the drivers compartment.

 

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

o Fire extinguishers are recommended in the drivers compartment within the reach of the driver.

 

OFFICIAL RULINGS

o Officials reserve the right to make final decisions in the interpretation of any rules or race procedures at any time. No equipment will be considered as having been approved by reason of having passed through inspection unobserved.
