The Austin-based Texas Super Racing Series is set to take its first-ever green flag this Saturday, March 22 in Houston at the Houston Motor Speedway.

The Texas Super Racing Series was founded by Mary Ann Naumann in October of 2002. Mary Ann has formed a top-rate staff to establish and implement rules, to sell sponsorships, to work with drivers and to establish TSRS as one of the most exciting racing series in the state of Texas.

There are 48 registered drivers for the 2003 Texas Super Racing Series, and they hail from all across the state. Among those 48 drivers are plenty of former and current track champions. The cars that will race in TSRS are similar to Limited Late Models/Super Street cars that race at local tracks across Texas.

There are 23 TSRS drivers who have committed to the race in Houston on Saturday.

The TSRS drivers have a lot to race for this year. Despite the fact that this is only the inaugural season of TSRS, the officials of the series have already raised $10,000 for the Drivers' Points Fund, which will be distributed at the end of the season to the series' top drivers. There are many ways in which the points fund will grow during the racing season.

The TSRS drivers will race 100 laps for the checkered flag on Saturday night at Houston Motor Speedway.

Race fans and media members will have an opportunity to meet TSRS officials and drivers at the TSRS Event Day at Chisolm Trail Icehouse and Bar-B-Q, located at the corner of Spicewood Springs Road and Hwy. 183 South in north Austin. The TSRS Event Day is slated to start at 11:30 a.m., with lunch for the media at noon.

Joe Aramendia, a former San Antonio Speedway regular who now drives the #79 Aramendia Racing Team car in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series, will be at the Event Day and will be available for media interviews afterwards. TSRS officials who will be available for interviews include Mary Ann Naumann, the TSRS Owner/Founder and Race Director, and Chuck Licata, the TSRS Director of Media Relations and Series Announcer.

Both Naumann and Licata live in Austin. Naumann has been involved in local auto racing for her entire life; she has done everything from driving a race car to running a race track. Licata hosts The Motorsports Zone, a one-hour auto racing show on KVET-AM 1300, The Zone, every Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. He works as a media consultant for the Texas TracGroup.
