South Texas Speedway recap and results - 2/25/06

Lawrence Mikulencak gets impressive victory at South Texas Speedway.

24 Modifieds were on hand for the 2nd race of the recently opened dirt track in Corpus Christi, Texas known as South Texas Speedway – The Dirt Track.

The heat races would provide some excitement with #1 Jaime Schach taking the win in heat race one, #26 Darrin Leonard winning heat number two, and last weeks winner #87x Austin Carter winning the third and final heat.

The Feature line up would be set off of heat race finishes and all 24 cars would make the call for the start of the evening’s main event. When the green flag flew it would be the #1 of Schach jumping out to the early lead from his pole position followed closely by #26 Leonard and the #87x of Carter. Lap two would find the yellow hankie as several cars in the rear of the field would tangle with a large tractor tire that is normally positioned on the inside edge of the track. Before the green would fly again last weeks victor #87x Austin Carter’s night would be over as his car would spit the drive shaft out from underneath. When the green light returned it did not take long for the #87 Lawrence Mikulencak to take the lead on lap 5 with a pass on the outside between turns 1one and two. The battle further back in the field would keep the crowd on their feet as #89 Steve Whiteaker Jr from his 18th starting position and #57 Dale Flanagan from the 9th starting spot would swap positions back and forth as they made their way to the front. #89 Whiteaker Jr. would later cut a right front ending his night and #57 Flanagan would end up a solid 4th. Coming to the checkers #94 Nicki Hardcastle worked some magic to pass #1 Schach and #87 Lawrence Mikulencak would bring the Young’s Automotive, Ace Transmission, Mikulencak chassis to victory lane.

GB Carter makes it two in a role at STS.

Nine finely tuned, well oiled, polished to perfection Thunder Stocks made their way to STS this week. The front wheel drive boys were out number but were not out gunned. The heat race was won by #77 GB Carter in a front wheel drive followed by the other 3 front wheel drives.

The feature would prove to be no different as #77 Carter would jump out to an early lead and take a sweep for the second week in a row. #18 Pete “Chicken Man” Arce was in hot pursuit but not able to catch the flying squirrel. Only one caution would fly in the feature race and multiple lanes of racing action made the Thunder feature a pleasure to watch.
