24nomo
Tonight the Cars Tour is at Florence Motor Speedway. Kaden Honeycutt is racing his second race with his new Pro Late model team. I think that he is leading or tied for the lead in the Pro Late Model class. They dont usually tear up as much stuff as the Late Models and have way less cry babies after the race. Both races should be good. Qualifying is about to start so time to start streaming the show
ron.brown11
Twentynine cars took time in the LMSC division. The pole went to Connor Hall @ 17.775, with Brendan Queen 2nd @ 17.811. Landon Huffman Jr timed 29th @ 18.4. Twentieth wasConnor Jones @ 18.012. So even with the Hoosier F45, the top 20 are within .037 of a second. I'm pretty sure that even though qualifying was pretty close, the race will probably look a lot more spread out. I forgot to list that Fulshear, TX'x Cade Brown will start 15th. He's the Florence defending track champ, and he won the SC 400 last fall. He's really good there! Edited August 30 by ron.brown11
ron.brown11
The Pros just finished qualifying, with 15 cars taking time. The pole goes to Tristen McKee @ 17.316, 2nd was Spencer Davis @ 17.328. Honeycutt was 5th fastest @ 17.447, and his new teammate Lopez was @ 17.480. Harvick was 8th @17.551, and last was Horseman @ 17.913. So the entire field was separated by .6 seconds. Honeycutt & Davis are tied in points, but Kaden holds the first tiebreaker, with his win earlier this season. It's sunny & hot in Timmonsville, and rain is listed at 10% or less all night. So it looks like they should have no problem getting the races in. Bubba Wallace is legends car there tonight. Brexton Busch won the Bandoleros race, as he was leading at the end of their allotted time. Keenan Harvick won the Legends race, as it too was cut short because of their time limit. Bubba finished 6th.
ron.brown11
They are in intermission at Florence, so I've been watching my normal favorite, SK Modifieds at Stafford!! I never got to race a tour type modified, but I sure would loved to have had that opportunity. My car had just a bit more horsepower, but not those big wide tires that they run. They look like 15" wide Hoosiers, but we only ran 8" wide Goodyears. For us, throttle control was paramount, to say the least. They are also able to run their cars about 2" lower than we were allowed to. They sure are fun to watch. They will start 35 SK Mod Lites in the main, and it looks like 25 in the top cars SK Mods. Those 35 SK Lites are the feeder series to the SKs. Imagine, 35 open wheel cars, on a 1/2 mile track, without radios!! Sometimes they wad up a bunch, and I've seen them have just a couple of spins. But it's always exciting!!
ron.brown11
Travis Braden, driving the #51 car that Honeycutt used to drive, blew an engine going down the back straight, 16 laps in. Thankfully nobody crashed, but several got out of shape. There's a lot of speedy dry going down the back straight, and thru turn 4.

They got 3 laps completed, and Caden Kvapil blew an engine. More speedy dry going down, and we're under a red flag. Those drivers are going to be very hot sitting still, as it's still in the 90s, and it's always humid there!! Honeycutt got passed by Harvick, and is running 6th now. ron.brown11
I forgot to mention before, Rajah Caruth is running in the LMSC race after while. I think that it's a Dale Jr car, but has Hendrick.com sponsorship. They just interviewed him, and he says that it's a R&S house car, and he qualified 20th. On the restart after the red flag, Honeycutt git up to 3rd, and that's where he's running, getting ready to restart.
ron.brown11
With 26 laps to go, we've got a comp caution. The top 5 are Bollman, Davis, Harvick, Honeycutt & Jake Bolin. Carson Hocevar has been in the announce booth since the red flag for Kvapil's engine failure. Going back to green.
ron.brown11
Spencer Davis wins! Second thru fifth: Bollman (in a Donnie Wilson car); Honeycutt; McKee & Bolin. 6-10: Church; Harvick; garbs; Garner & Horniman. Bollman looked unbeatable until that comp caution. It only took a couple of green flag laps, and Davis passed and drove away. So Davis will now have the points lead, unless tech changes for any of them. Barring a massive collapse by Davis & Honeycutt, it looks like Kvapil is out of the championship run. That's too bad for his family owned team. Honeycutt's teammate, Branden Lopez got together with another car on the front stretch. He then hit the inside wall, ending his night. But he was pretty fast before that happened. I've watched him run several times at Hickory, and he's never been that fast before. So I don't know if Honeycutt has had anything to do with that, but this is 2 races in a row that he's looked much better. Well, something that didn't seem to be a factor tonight suddenly is. They're in hurry up mode, as rain is about an hour away from the track. Damn it!!
ron.brown11
Queen led lap 1, and has since dropped back to 13th, 12 laps in. Under yellow for Isabella Robusto getting a flat and stopped in turn 3. Hall led a couple of laps, and he too has dropped back to 3rd but he's on the inside letting cars go by on the outside. Going green again. Well that didn't last long. Robusto got back on the track as the field went green, then her engine blew. Not sure if she missed a gear and over revved it, or what. There was a trail of fluid following the car it appeared. Cleanup is underway. Edited August 31 by ron.brown11
ron.brown11
Comp caution with 63 laps to go, Mini Tyrell is leading, followed by Millington, McCarty, Cox & Jones. 6-10: McCumby; Straus; Queen; Hall, & Cody Kelley. 11-15: Brown; Diaz, Lapsovich, Burrow & Crews. 16-20: Grady; Caruth; Heafner; Bassett Jr & Fose. 21-25: Isles Jr; Glenski; Casey Kelley, Earnhardt Jr & Wilson. For some reason the FloRace ticker isn't showing 26-29th.
ron.brown11
With 29 laps to go, yellow is out. Three cars got together off of 4, and everybody keeps rolling. Both Burrow & Huffman got into the front stretch wall, and both went into the pits. 1-5: Millington; Tyrell, Cox; Queen & McCarty. 6-10: Hall; Diaz; Jones; Lapsovich & Cody Kelley. 11-15: Glenski; Straus; Brown; Earnhardt Jr & Caruth. 16-20: Grady; Heafner; Casey Kelley; Crews & Wilson. ron.brown11
Millington Wins!! 2-5: Queen; Cox; Hall & Diaz. 6-10: Tyrell; Glenski; Jones; Heafner & Earnhardt Jr. 11-15: Lapsovich; McCarty; Brown; Lewis & Bassett Jr. I couldn't get the final positions, as they never gave anything after the top 10. Millington was strong all night, and the rain stayed away. I was laughing at the announcers, talking about how Dale Jr was running so high on the track. He and Glenski were running all night back in the mid 20s, until there was about 35 laps to go, and Glenski was behind. The reason I was laughing was because they've never watched Glenski race at Florence apparently. Jr went high to pass a car, and Glenski went past him even higher. Once past Jr, he drove away. Dale spent the rest of the race trying to catch Glenski. I've watched him race at Florence for the last 3 years now, and nobody goes as high as he does, and he'll run a whole race up there. I remember last fall, at the SC 400, Jr said afterwards that he wished he'd have gone high a lot earlier, so today did. I think that both of them could have made a couple more spots, if they'd have started about 10 laps sooner. It looks like the points stayed the same for Hall & Queen, barring any possible tech issues. I loved seeing the drivers having to take care of their stuff tonight. It makes for good racing, and a lot more cars are going home tonight in 1 piece.

ron.brown11
5 hours ago, NickHolt said: Great report, Ron! That Davis Honeycutt battle sounds like fun! Thanks Nick. Yeah it's going to be a battle to the end I think. Either the Lopez racing team has elevated their stuff, or Honeycutt has elevated them. Brandon hasn't been that good while running Hickory, and I think I saw him at Florence, as a weekly racer. Either way, both cars were fast. Too bad Lopes had his crash, and it was a big hit too. I haven't gone to look at the CARS Tour page, to see what the standings are. I think Honeycutt will be about 5 points back. He needs to win again for the points, and because it would give him the advantage via a tiebreaker. I try to do my best trying to make it as accurate as possible. But all of my reporting is happening after the fact. Unfortunately I can't watch & type at the same time. The Hoosier F45s did get the field spread out. There were always comers & goers, so it wasn't a dull race. Glad to see how few cars got hurt, so I think that this was mission accomplished. I won't be surprised at all if the Tour goes back to using them again in the Pro series next year. That would greatly improve the drivers that are trying to move up. If they continue to run the ST1 & ST2 tires that don't really give up much, it will cause them problems going to the F45 in the LMSC series, that has to be managed all race long. It's harder to unlearn a habit.
