rebelracewriter Posted February 23, 2023 Report Posted February 23, 2023 Monarch Motor Speedway · ATTENTION MONARCH MOTOR SPEEDWAY RACING FAMILY & WICHITA FALLS RESIDENTS: It is with much sadness, and sense of defeat, that we report to our racing family today that we are NOT going to reopen Monarch Motor Speedway in 2023. To those of you who have already purchased parking and registration, we will be refunding those purchases by Saturday February 25. You will be refunded to the same source that you paid online by (fee free). That being said, the question I’m sure you all have at this point, after such a strong kickoff campaign, is WHY. There are several reasons why, but the primary component right now is one that the City is imposing on us with utilities. We are reasonable people, but we feel we are literally being held hostage by the City in which could easily turn into a very large, and unnecessary, utility cost that could very well eliminate any chance our business would have to even break-even for the season. Between the personal investment in time and cost that it takes to get the facility race-ready for each event, coupled with this sudden large unplanned (and unjustified) expense, we’ve decided it is not in our best interest to forge ahead. If you’d like to let City administrators know what Monarch Motor Speedway meant to you and your family, feel free to reach out to them at https://www.facebook.com/cityofwichitafalls/ and/or by emailing publicinformation@wichitafallstx.gov or leave a review at https://goo.gl/maps/jLCS7Eg8N5LyVKzy5 We wish you all the best. NickHolt Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 Why does this remind me of what the City of San Antonio did to San Antonio Speedway??? Maybe because politicians seem to have their own intere$t$ in mind rather than those of the larger community - which includes the stock car racing community. Quote
ron.brown11 Posted March 2, 2023 Report Posted March 2, 2023 Sorry to hear this. Unfortunate for all involved.. Quote
