Lakefest 2022 Preview @ Lake Marble Falls 5/20-22/2022

By JM Hallas

Marble Falls, TX.,(May 18th, 2022) Normally I preview Lakefest with, “If it's August and 100 degrees….” Looked at the calendar and it's only May, but still forecast to be around 100. So do the drag boats bring these temperatures?

This year, as part of Lakefest 2022, the party begins not only three months earlier in the year, but a day earlier, Thursday, May 19th at Putters & Gutters in Marble Falls with 'Boats and Bowling.' Ten Southern Drag Boat Association(SDBA) racers will be on hand for a meet and greet between 4-7pm.

Friday, May 20th things get going at Johnson Park as the SDBA kicks off their season and starts filling the pit area readying for qualification runs beginning Saturday morning. Friday evening between 5-8pm is the annual 'Show and Shine' were the drivers show off this years version of their rides. You can also get up close with these water rockets and talk to your favorite drivers.

(Friday nights event is free.)

It gets a bit noisy on Saturday May, 21st starting around 8am as qualifications begins in all classes. Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro, Top Alcohol Flat, Pro Competition Flat, Pro Outlaw, Pro Modified, Pro Jet, Quick Eliminator, Pro Eliminator, Top Eliminator, Modified Eliminator, Stock Eliminator and Personal Water Craft. Qualification set the fields and elimination ladders for Sundays final rounds.

With qualification runs done and brackets set, Sunday, May 22nd, it's time to see who the top dogs are in eliminations for all the classes in competition. While the top classes will top 200mph, other classes will be also determined on time, or index classes. In these classes the object is still to be fast, but also to be first to finish line, on a set time, without going quicker than that time.

Post race activities conclude in the park with the crowning of the weekends champions and awarding of trophies.
