NickHolt
Tankersley Tames 31-Car ‘Bandits Field at 82; $31,500 Paul Peters Memorial on DeckPetty TX (9/30/19) - It was absolutely awesome to see Channin Tankersley start 5th in the feature event, track down the leader mid-race, make a pass for the lead in lapped traffic and go on to a win by a commanding distance this past Saturday night in the ‘Fall Shootout 25’ 360C.I. Sprint Car Bandits (SCB) feature event at 82 Speedway. What made this win such a special moment in sprint car racing for this writer is the fact that this was only the second race back for Channin after a long recovery from a scary sprint car crash earlier this season. Channin did the right thing by letting nature take its course and taking plenty of time to recover before strapping back in the driver’s seat. And what an exclamation point his on-track drive displayed, as the surface was super-fast, sticky and had some extra personality in it caused by a few bumps here and there.31 quality sprint car teams assembled for the event, from as far away as British Columbia, throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.Another driver doing a spectacular job on the track after recovering from an injury in a sprint car race in August was Dalton Stevens. Dalton would claim the $100 FixYourGenerator.com Top Points Driver award, after winning his heat race from his 3rd place starting position. Dalton would take an early commanding lead in the feature slicing and dicing through lapped traffic from lap 5, on. He would keep the lead until just after the half-way point in the feature, when Tankersley was able to sneak by for the lead while Dalton was momentarily trapped by lapped traffic. Stevens would unexpectedly break on the 24th lap ending his great run – which is not reflected in the final results.16th place starter Michael Day would also have a clean strong run through the field coming home 3rd in the final running order. Dale Wester also drove a solid race finishing in 4th. Dale was 2nd in SCB points going into this event. Claud Estes III came from the B-feature to drive his way to a 9th place finish in the A-feature. D.J. Estes would hook a rut in the B-feature, sending him tumbling off the racing surface into the dirt run off area. D.J. would quickly leap out of the car, much to the approval and roar of the concerned 82 Speedway crowd. That would be the only sprint car team to get upside down during the event.Yet another driver drove a brilliant race in his first-ever Sprint Car Bandits appearance – and with a 4-barrell carbureted 360C.I. engine under the hood. That driver was Casey Willis from Sperry Oklahoma (north of Tulsa). Casey was able to quickly adapt to the SCB rules package and cruise his way to a very impressive 2nd place finish in the feature race.BC’s Robbie Price climbed from his 7th place starting spot to 3rd and broke late in the feature event. We certainly appreciate his efforts to compete with the SCB – in his first-ever appearance. It was also great to see ‘The Pilot’ Mark Huddleston make his return to racing after a several year absence caused by his crazy working schedule in the USAF. Mark would make the feature event but dropped out mid-race when his helmet shield broke.Current SCB points will be posted in the days to come – all while we are building up for the $31,000 Paul Peters Memorial event.Paul Peters was the father of 82 Speedway track owner/promoter Tracy Peters. Paul passed away this July, and his birthday was on October 12th. So, Tracy wanted to put together a ‘Paul Peters’-sized event in his honor, so the Sprint Car Bandits will be back headlining this event, along with the Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS), Factory Stocks and Limited Modifieds.Just four divisions will be racing on October 12th, with the SCB racing for $2,000 to win and $300 to start, while the TOMS winner will take home a bumped-up purse of $2,000 to win, the Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Sherman Texas Factory Stocks will be racing for $2,000 to win and the TRC Team Richardson Chassis Limited Modified winner will collect $1,200 to win. Here are the finishing results from the 9/28/19 ‘Fall Shootout 25’ Sprint Car Bandits series feature from 82 Speedway in Petty Texas:17 – Channin Tankersley31 – Casey Willis2 – Michael Day12w – Dale Wester45b – Casey Burkham20 – Chad Wilson77w – Will Eggimann2s – Colby Stubblefield74e – Claud Estes III02 – Cody Freeman99x – Dalton Stevens21p – Robbie Price71 – Colby Estes44 – Jason Howell72 – Daniel Estes21 – Michelle Melton41 – Casey Merrell33m – Mark Huddleston5r – John Ricketts41m – Steve McMackin47 – Chipper Wood (DNS)B-feature finish:74e – Claud Estes III47 – Chipper Wood02 – Cody Freeman72 – Daniel Estes7 – Jerrod Warhurst4b – Austin Burkham42p – Preston PerlmutterV8 – Robert Vetter88 – Terry Easum33 – Mike Merrell64 – Mark Zoeller23 – Junior Jenkins118 – Scott EvansThe www.KoolTrikes.com heat races were won by Channin Tankersley, Michelle Melton, Robbie Price and Dalton Stevens.
