NeilTPS Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 (edited) Donnie Moore wins TPS Race #1 at C.C. Motor Speedway By: Neil Upchurch, Texas Pro Sedans – Race Director Corpus Christi, Texas (April 9, 2005) Donnie Moore of Hutto, Texas started 1st and finished 1st in the Texas Pro Sedans race at C.C. Motor Speedway. The Texas Pro Sedans series contested their 1st TPS race of the 2005 season at C.C. Motor Speedway. The event marked the beginning of the 30th consecutive racing season by the TPS organization. The event was highlighted by a 25 car and driver entry list. Qualifying Time Trials saw the fastest time posted by Moore. He turned a 15.710. The second fastest lap was turned by Mike Knotts in his VW Scirocco. Moore’s time almost equaled the TPS track record at only.150 seconds off Lalo Leal’s TPS/CCMS track record which still stands at 15.560 seconds. The Texas Pro Sedans four cylinder stock cars played to a large grandstand crowd. Ten drivers took the green flag in a fifteen lap Last Chance Qualifying Race. Six would transfer to the Feature Race.Race rules allowed for 18 of the 23 cars to take the green flag in the 25 lap TPS Feature Race. Moore, Leal and Knotts dueled with their fast four cylinder stock cars for the first 20 laps until Mike Knotts hit the turn three wall due to a broken front right CV joint after running in a strong 3rd place. They were followed closely by the impressive 3rd place finisher G.B.Carter in his VW Rabbit. The race was slowed four times by yellow caution periods A total of eight Texas Pro Sedan drivers completed the race on the lead lap. Recording 25 laps were #4, Will Robertson who placed 4th in his Dodge Neon, Jesse Sandoval was 5th in his Ford Pinto. He was followed by Sergio Hexsel who finished 6th in his VW Rabbit. 7th place went to Jamie Garner in his brand new 2005 VW Sedan. Rounding out in 8th place on the lead lap was six time TPS Champion, Bill LaBarge in his BMW. During the race, LaBarge had a hard brush with the front straight-a-way wall which slowed his performance for the remainder of the race to the checkered flag. Donnie Moore won the TPS race by a three second margin over the eventual runner-up Lalo Leal. The TPS Championship Points standings for the new season lists Donnie Moore with a five point lead over Lalo Leal with a seven month 2005 race schedule yet to be run. The early TPS “Rookie of the Year” points leader is Chip Harmon in his new Ford Pinto from Portland, Texas. The next TPS race will be held at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas on Saturday night, April 30th. Several CCMS regular Thunder Class drivers are expected to participate in the TPS race because their class is idle that night according to the C.C. Motor Speedway web site schedule. thumper Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 What a great night of racing.I was happy to finish 3rd although it was because 2 other cars had problems.I was right behind the 48 when he tagged the wall and I heard the impact over my engine, what an impact.Im glad he was not hurt but I bet the car will require surgery.I ran my car exactly as a Texas Thunder except for changing tires to slicks. With a little more gear and a locked transaxle I might do better. Will in the Neon was all over me with street tires so I think he will be unbeatable when we go back to street tires.16.20 on street tires !!!I just want to thank Mr. Upchurch and the entire Pro Sedan organization for the oppourtunity to race with the fastest asphalt 4 cyl cars in Texas and I speak for all the CC Speedway Thunder Cars. top_shelf_12 Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 The CCMS regulars, 77 and 14 ran really well. Although I must admit, it was refreshing to see someone pass that 77 on the outside again, sorry GB, no disrespect, but you just make the race for second more interesting usually, esp. now there's no 21 Mustang cutting the tale off of your rabbit, but looks like you're going to have to watch out for Mopar now.
