Jason Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Who all is camping and/or going to TMS? Also do they let anyone into the camp ground (heard theres a lot of parties). Quote
Radical Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 We'll being going to Texas Motor Speedway. We camped there a few years ago. There is lot's of parties going on there. Just be careful! There was someone shot in there the year we camped. If you go camping take a motor home or something of that nature. Trying to sleep at night can be difficult with all the generators running. The showers sucked that year. The water wasn't draining properly and you had to wade through the water to get in the shower. If you like to party hardy that's the place to be. Quote
HORSEPOWER Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Decided we are going, last minute thing, eventhough I almost fell to sleep twice during the race last year. I guess I gotta get tickets from some scalpers and maybe buy some scattered tickets on the font stretch for Sunday's race, find some empty seats, till some one comes and says those are my seats, then go find some other ones and sneak into the pits again, just like last year. Definitive Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Dude...I thought we were the only one's that did that...LMAO. Quote

blueoval Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 camped out last year and camping out this year. It is awesome. We are about 300 yards from turn 4. Parties all night. BBQ, music, beer, walk tot he short track sat night, drink more beer, wake up (not at 4:00am to beat the traffic) have breakfast outside and walk from the RV to the track, with a cooler of course. Â The experience is awesome! I recommend it. Â Also the showers last year were always clean, Maybe a 20 minute wait at some points, but well worth it. Quote
Keith Garrett Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 i havent missed one yet so ill be ther as always Quote
dirty Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 any pointers on how to sneak into the pits, please say it does'nt involve a pink tutu or some degrading thing of that nature.gonna try and pull some strings with the snap on guy but need a back up plan. any tips would be appreciated. Quote
JamesHigdon Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Hey, I cant hardly even see why yall go to the Nextel cup race at TMS, dont you know CART puts (put i guess) on a way better show there, albeit a slightly vervous and destructive one ? Ussually I'm not a fan of the open wheel stuff, but 270 on a 1.5 mile trank is crazy, and even though IRL seems comparably slow at around 240 they still put on a better show then anybody that still runs at TMS besides ROMCO. The IRL race is cheap, plus the truck race is cheaper, you get a all the free legends racing you can handle at the little track, and ROMCO was free last year. Â James Quote
mustang21 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 how do you get in the camp grounds .. do you got to pay extra i am going to the race ,, i am leaving friday .. but havent thought were i was going to stay ... Quote
Jason Posted April 7, 2005 Author Report Posted April 7, 2005 CART never had a race at TMS. They tried but the gforces were to much for the drivers so they had to cancel it. Quote
JamesHigdon Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 (edited) Jason, I know CART never RACED at TMS, but they did run there. The weekend they were supposed to race we where at TMS for a swap meet and just happened to walk into their afternoon practice, the last time, the only time, that CART cars in a group ran at TMS. I realized after I posted that someone was going to say something. We actually watched the practice, with the 3 or 4 or 5 wrecks they had and on the way out I just happened to purchase an event T-shirt. I wonder what an event T-shirt for an event that never happened is worth... Anyways, my point was that at TMS, the open wheel cars put on an AWSOME show for less money, less gruff, theres free legends car racing, a free ROMCO race, and you leave knowing you didnt just bankrolled Brian Frances Malibu house. Radical Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Although they were there I do not believe they came close to doing 270. I.R.L. were running about 230-235 but that's about all. Poor Cart guys just couldn't handle the pressure of running that fast. Quote
Jason Posted April 7, 2005 Author Report Posted April 7, 2005 Didn't IRL do like 220-230 and CART was from 230-240 Quote
C_Malin Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 2002 I.R.L Ran the boomtown 500,with NTS and Romco. I was in the pits and ill tell you what they were doing every bit of 230. if you blinked your eyes going into turn one by the time they opened those suckes were coming off of turn two, Awesome Race weekend.
