Shouse Holds Off Martens for Sprint Series of Oklahoma Victory!

Meeker, Oklahoma – August 27, 2016 - Current series point leader Andy Shouse started on the pole and held off a last lap challenge by Jake Martens to win his first Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car feature of the season Saturday night at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker, Oklahoma during the running of the inaugural “Pat Suchy Memorial.”

Shouse and Blake Dacus started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Shouse taking the lead as the green flag fell.

One lap was in the record books before the first of two caution flags fell when Sterling Huff and Joseph Miller got together in turn four.

The top five on the restart were Shouse, Dacus, Chad Koch, Martens and Shayla Waddell with Martens getting a strong run up top coming out of turn to pass Koch to take over the third position.

By lap five Shouse had opened a ten car length advantage over Dacus and approached slower cars on lap nine. Shouse, working the bottom of the track, stretched his advantage to a half stretch lead at the races midway point.

Lap seventeen saw the night’s final caution flag fall when Chuck Belleveuille slowed exiting turn two.

The final restart running order was Shouse, followed by Dacus, Martens, Waddell and Koch with Martens once again using a restart, this time to pass Dacus for the runner up position.

This set an eight lap dash to the checkered flag with Shouse holding a five car length lead. Four laps to go and Shouse continued to work the bottom of the quarter-mile oval while Martens preferred lines were the bottom of turns one and two and the top in three and four. On the last lap, Shouse began to enter lapped traffic entering turns three and four as Martens dove love entering the same turns. The Fairview, Oklahoma driver tried to slide in front of Shouse but the current national IMCA Racesaver sprint car point leader held on to take his first SSO feature victory of the season by just one car length.

Koch held on for third while Dacus and sixth starting Joe Wood, Jr. rounded out the top five.

The Martens Machine first heat race was won by Koch while Shouse took home the Messmer Racing second heat. Martens took home the Bishop Racing Components third heat. All heat races were eight laps in distance.

The SSO IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car Series would like to thank the following for adding to the purse for the inaugural “Pat Suchy Memorial:” Jennings Garage, Brand Racing Engines, Boyd Racing Engines, Stinger Chassis, Mike Holloway and Steve Garey.

Officials with the SSO would like to thank all the drivers for supporting this event as well as newcomers Mike Scott, James Fabian and 15-year old sprint car rookie Tanner Conn.

The SSO Racesaver Sprint Car Series will be back in action in three weeks for a double-header weekend. It all starts on Friday night, September 16, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore before heading to Longdale Speedway in Longdale, Oklahoma where they will join forces with the Kansas based United Rebel Sprint Series.
