FINAL PLANS FOR USRA EVENT AT SAN ANTONIO SPEEDWAY

Final plans have been made for the inaugural United States Racing Association (USRA-TX) races at San Antonio Speedway (SAS) this Saturday (April 2). Ameri-Tech Buildings, ROMCO Equipment Company and American Classified are sponsoring this special event. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m., followed by Opening Ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. and then the races, beginning at 6:50 p.m.

The SAS Sportsman class will run for a purse that will include an extra $1,300 dollars, thanks to the USRA Track Management Group that took over the operations and management of San Antonio Speedway last week. The Sportsman race will be a non-point, non-NASCAR sanctioned race.

In addition, the purse for the USRA AllStar Trucks was carried over from the rained-out Houston race on March 19. Thus, the drivers and teams in the USRA AllStar Race Trucks series will be running for a $1,000-to-win, $200-to-start purse.

There will be a practice session on Friday (April 1) for drivers from the USRA Super Late Models, USRA AllStar Race Trucks and the SAS Sportsman class. Gates will open at 2 p.m. on Friday, and practice is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $20 for each car and driver, with all other admissions at $10 per person. There will be no charge for grandstand admission to watch the practice sessions on Friday. Security will be provided in the pits for all race teams who wish to leave their cars and trailers in the pits on Friday night.

A special room rate of $50 (plus tax) per night has been negotiated with the American Heritage Inn for lodging on Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations can be made by calling American Heritage at (210) 337-7171; ask for “the USRA/SAS rate.” The hotel is located at 3180 Goliad Road (near I-37 and S.E. Military Drive). For more information, visit the inn's website at American Heritage.

Alternate arrangements have also been made at the Best Western-Shetland Inn at 3602 S.E. Military Drive. Special room rates for Friday and Saturday are $70 (plus tax), and reservations can be made by calling the Inn at (210) 798-0545 and asking for the “San Antonio Speedway rate” at the beginning of the call. For more information, visit the Inn’s website at Best Western.

Both hotels are located about 13 miles from San Antonio Speedway. They both offer parking areas for large trailers and have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

The pit gates will be opened on Saturday morning, April 2, at 9 a.m. Pit admission is $25 for drivers, pit crew members, etc. A schedule of events issued in a separate press release.

Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday's race are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens (65 and over) and military (with ID), $5 for children ages 7-12, and free admission for children six and under.

San Antonio Speedway is located at 14901 State Highway 16 South, about 3.5 miles outside of Loop 410. The track is located just south of downtown and can easily be accessed by taking IH-35 South and exiting on Highway 16 South (left exit), just past South Park Mall.

Additional information about Saturday’s events can be found at San Antonio Speedway's website at San Antonio Speedway or by calling the track’s hotline at (210) 628-1499. Information about USRA can be found at USRA.
