Working Man Weekend Gets a New Look
High-intensity crowds and large purses make Merritt Speedway and Lernerville Speedway the go-to for drivers before Labor Day

CONCORD, NC. – Aug. 3, 2016 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series punches in its time card for back-to-back double feature weekends with dirt late model racing’s biggest names. The series takes on Merritt Speedway (Mich.) Aug. 26-27 before retracing its steps back to Pennsylvania for an all-new Working Man weekend, Sept. 2-3 at Lernerville Speedway.

The Working Man at Lernerville will feature a new format for the blockbuster weekend. For the first time in series history, there will be no heat races in the program. On Friday, Sept. 2, there will be qualifying and 25-lap qualifying features that pay $2,500-to-win. The car count will determine how many qualifying features there are. If the car count exceeds 40, there will be three qualifying features; if the car count exceeds 60, there will be four qualifying features. The finale on Saturday, Sept. 3 will host Last Chance Showdown races and a 75-lap, $20,000-to-win feature.

How drivers finish in the qualifying features will determine where they advance for Saturday’s finale. Drivers will either transfer directly to the feature or will have a final opportunity to make the show through one of the Last Chance Showdown races.

“I’m excited to go back to Lernerville,” said Shane Clanton, who won the event last season. “We’re good every time we go. Hopefully this year is no exception.”

Clanton, the defending series champion, scored his 30th career win at the Working Man last season, snapping an eight-race winless streak. Clanton is hopeful that Lady Luck will accompany him to this show at the 4/10-mile oval, which is expected to bring a stout field of competitors and high-capacity crowd. Like Lernerville’s top-dollar show earlier in the Outlaws’ season, the Firecracker 100 weekend, the Working Man brings similar stakes.

“There’re so many fans that come out and camp, and they just love racing,” Clanton said. “The way they embrace us when we come into the place, it’s exciting to know this many fans want to know what we do and support us.”

Joining the new Working Man weekend for back-to-back double-header weekends is the Keyser Manufacturing 100 weekend program at Merritt Speedway’s banked 3/8-mile oval. Friday night, Aug. 26 will be a $6,000-to-win show, while Saturday, Aug. 27, is more than double the payout at $15,000. Each night will have qualifying, heat and feature races. The last time the Outlaws made the trip to Lake City, Mich. was in 2014.
