Kratzer Claims 2016 Hutch Nationals Late Model Victory!

Hutchinson, Kansas – July 16, 2016 - Pole sitter Chris Kratzer out ran out ran outside front row starter Dan Smith into turn one at the start and never looked back in claiming his first National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model feature event of the season and most importantly his first ever Hutchinson Grand Nationals trophy as the tour took part in the 60th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Hutchinson Grand Nationals Presented by Midwest Superstore Ford / Toyota of Hutchinson Saturday night.

Kratzer overcame two cautions that slowed the twenty-five lap feature finale on lap two and lap fifteen by pulling away from Smith on each restart. It is Kratzer’s first career victory atop the Kansas State Fairgrounds half mile and a dream come true for a driver who grew up attending the Nationals and hoping to one day find his name etched in the record books.

Smith would settle for second, five car lengths behind Kratzer while Lyle Shepard, Brandon Givens and Jimmy Segraves rounded out the top five.

The two, eight lap heat races for the eighteen car field were won by Kratzer and Smith.

The “gladiators” of the NCRA late model division will be in action twice this coming weekend as they make their first ever appearance at Thayer County Speedway in Deshler, Nebraska this Friday night (July 22) before making their third appearance of the season on Saturday night, July 23.
