Vanderbeek wins in West Union

WEST UNION, Iowa (July 15) -- Zack VanderBeek took control early on and never looked back Friday night en route to winning the 42-lap main event for the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa.

'The Z-Man' swiped the lead away from Grant Junghans Rookie of the Year contender Jacob Bleess with four laps in the books and was never seriously challenged the rest of the way.

"With these guys you've got to run hard and keep them behind you," VanderBeek said in victory lane. "Seemed like the bottom got good there and dirtied the rest of the track up. I just tried to hit my marks down there. It felt pretty good."

It was the fifth win of the 2016 campaign for the reigning King of America, and earned the New Sharon, Iowa, resident $3,000 for holding off a herd of A-list competitors.

Friday's win also served as the 33rd career USMTS triumph for the driver of the 33z Racing/Casey's General Stores LG2 Modified.

Cade Dillard started next to VanderBeek in the third row and followed him across the finish line with RealTruck.com Northern Region points leader Jason Hughes passing six cars on his way to a third-place finish.

Thursday night's winner, Rodney Sanders, was fourth and Stormy Scott claimed the fifth position.

Sixth through tenth were Jesse Sobbing, Bleess, Johnny Scott, Mike Densberger and Jett Big Eagle.

Returning to battle in the MSD Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports on Saturday, the USMTS makes its annual stop and the Johnson family's I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., on Saturday, July 16, for the 8th Annual Seeburg Mufflers Missouri Meltdown.

The USMTS will be sharing the spotlight with the Wingless Auto Racing Series (WAR) Non-Wing Sprint Cars, Out-Pace USRA B Mods and E-Mods with gates opening at 4:00, hot laps at 6:15 and races starting at 7:00.

General admission is $20, kids ages 7-12 are $8, children 6 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. For suite availability, call (660) 749-5317.
