Weekend Preview: Good Vibrations Texas Nationals Fueled by Sunoco at San Antonio Raceway - IHRA Drag Racing Series returns to the Lone Star State

NORWALK, Ohio (March 31, 2016) - The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Drag Racing Series returns to action this weekend at San Antonio Raceway for the Good Vibrations Texas Nationals Fueled by Sunoco. The second event of the season features AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car, Pro Modified, Pro Stock, Nitro Motorcycle and the Summit Pro-Am Tour on April 1 - 2.

The on-track action starts Friday, April 1 with Summit Pro-Am qualifying in the afternoon and the first round of professional qualifying at 7 p.m. CT. Saturday's schedule includes the continuation of qualifying at 2 p.m. CT, Summit Pro-Am eliminations and.professional eliminations at 5 p.m. CT. Sunday is a sportsman only day as they Summit Pro-Am Tour wraps up with race number two of the weekend.

The breakdown:

 

Goforth returns: The 2016 season started out with a familiar face in victory lane at the close of the AMSOIL Nitro Nationals at Orlando Speed World Dragway. Last year's IHRA Pro Stock Champion, Cary Goforth took his AMSOIL Chevrolet Camaro to the winner's circle with his newly formed alliance with Black Diamond Motorsports.

 

New contenders: The Pro Modified class came down to Jerico Balduf and Adam Flamholc in the finals at the season-opener. Both drivers recently announced their commitment to run a full-time schedule in the IHRA Drag Racing Series. Flamholc originally from Sweden, took home his career first Ironman trophy.

 

Return to the Lone Star State: San Antonio Raceway marks the second stop on the IHRA Drag Racing Series tour. The 2016 event returns to its original date and runs the first weekend of April. The raceway is located just outside of downtown San Antonio and features a 1/4-mile dragstrip.

 

2015 rewind: Cary Goforth nabbed the Ironman in the Pro Stock class at last year's Texas Nationals and is looking for a repeat performance.John Smith claimed the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car win in 2015 but is not entered in this year's event. The Pro Modified and Nitro Motorcycle classes did not compete and are looking for a win at the Lone Star State.

 

Good Vibrations: Longtime partner, Good Vibrations Motorsports will serve as the title sponsor at the Texas Nationals. Good Vibrations Motorsports has been a staple in the drag racing community and a proud supporter of the IHRA. They specialize in supercharged applications and mechanical fuel injection.
