Hagar Sweeps to Ten to Win NCRA/NSL Victory

Park City, Kansas March 26, 2016 - Derek Hagar made the long tow from his Marion, Arkansas home a worthwhile journey as he led every lap in claiming the richest payout for sprints in track history, claiming the sixth annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout at 81 Speedway in Park City in the season opener for both the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products and gomuddy.com National Sprint League 360-ci sprint car series on Saturday night.

The $10,000 paycheck was the biggest in Hagars career and coupled with his wire-to-wire victory in Friday nights event, it was a $11.500 weekend for the Arkansas hot-shoe.

Ian Madsen and Hagar started on the front row for the thirty-five lap feature with Hagar taking the lead as the green flag fell. Only one lap was complete before the red flag quickly appeared when Norman, Oklahomas Danny Wood got pinched into the front stretch wall and executed a series of flips down the front stretch. Wood was uninjured.

On the restart it was Hagar, followed by Madsen, sixth starting Don Droud, Jr., Danny Lasoski and Parker Price-Miller the top five with Hagar throttling away from the field. By lap five Hagar opened up a commanding full-stretch advantage and began approaching slower cars on lap eight. While working through the slower cars, Madsen and Lasoski battled for the runner-up position allowing the leader to keep his comfortable advantage.

The caution would slow the pace on lap fourteen when Forrest Southerland spun at the top of turns three and four.

Despite the competition now on his rear bumper on the restart, Hagar showed no signs of being detoured as, once again, he would open a half stretch lead by the races half-way mark on lap eighteen and once again approached slower traffic on lap twenty-one. As the race went to the ten laps to go mark, Madsen began to reel in Hagar and was set to make a serious challenge for the lead entering turns three and four with just six laps to go. But Madsens bid to make a challenge for the lead was all for not as the final caution flag of the night fell when Taylor Velasquez slowed at the top of turns three and four.

The race now became a six lap shootout and Hagar was up to the challenge and with a clean track, led the final laps to take the five car length victory and a $10,000 paycheck.

Maybe Ill have to take Monday off because Im sure well be doing a little bit of partying, Hagar beamed in Victory Lane. I was just trying to save my tires. I had to put my silver crown experience into play. I knew I had to get my elbows up the last 10 laps. It paid off tonight. Were sitting on the front straightaway $10,000 richer.
Madsen settled for second while fifth starting Brian Brown got past Lasoski late to claim third. Miller would round up fifth in his first ever appearance at 81 Speedway.

The five, eight lap heat races were won by Madsen, Justin Henderson, Lasoski, Chris Morgan and Cody Ledger with the four, ten lap qualifiers being won by Droud, Luke Cranston, Wood and Madsen. Jordan Mallett and Tyler Thomas won the two, twelve lap B features.

The next event for the NCRA and NSL 360-ci sprint car division will be held on Saturday night, April 16, at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Several notes from the sixth annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout.
