rebelracewriter
Hagar Opens NCRA/NSL Weekend with Wire-to-Wire Victory Park City, Kansas March 15, 2016 - The 2016 season opener for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products and the gomuddy.com National Sprint League 360 sprint car divisions kicked off the sixth annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout Friday night at 81 Speedway in Park City and when the checkered fell on the night it was Derek Hagar picking up his second career series victory. John Carney II and Hagar started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Hagar taking the lead as the green flag fell. Hagar kept out front of the twenty-four car field throughout the first half of the event, reaching slower cars for the first time on lap fourteen. It was that point the windy-weather conditions played a factor with the track surface and drivers as four caution flags slowed the feature in the final seven laps. That fourth and final caution flag fell on the final lap just as Hagar and second place running Danny Wood were battling for the lead, setting up a green, white and checkered. On the final restart Hagar got the jump on Wood he needed and went on to claim the $1500 victory. It seemed like it took forever, but it all worked out, Hagar said in his postrace interview. I knew I had to outsmart (Wood) on that restart so I changed up my routine a bit. We just need to do it tomorrow night when it counts for that $10,000.The feature had come to a stop on lap twenty when J.D. Johnson, Harli White and Cody Ledger got together with Johnson taking a hard tumble. The red flag was to Woods advantage and he got past race runner-up Carney II for the runner up position enabling him to challenge Hagar for the final five laps.Carney settled for third while Justin Henderson and Brian Brown rounded out the top five. The five heat races for the forty-five car field were won by Forrest Sutherland, Zach Daum, defending NCRA champion C.J. Johnson, Lee Grosz and Thomas Kennedy. The four qualifiers were won by Hagar, Carney, Henderson and Wood while Kennedy and Taylor Velasquez won the two, twelve lap B features. It is back at 81 Speedway tonight (Saturday) for the sixth annual, $10,000 to win Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with a special start time of 6:00 PM.NCRA/NSL 360 - 81 Speedway/Park City, Kansas - 03/25/16 - 45 Cars 1st Heat (10 Laps): 1. 85-Forrest Sutherland (1); 2. 33l-Danny Lasoski (3); 3.
