REB gotta remember it was a snow out in most of the country that day something to do with the weather anyway and with maybe only four channels to watch .no internet or cell phone and such captive audience you may say ...with out that weather might have been only 3 million watching seeing nascar wasn't known by many ....but I agree nascar today is tame compared to then ...notice there isn't any soap and old spice commercials drivers to clean now ..now what were the ratings during the 90s when nascar was really going strong ....total different world today look at our local racing use to be a given the stands were full the food was better and every one on a given corner had or knew someone with a racecar more family involvement ,friend involvements so on and so on ....cant compare apples to grapefruit . .. but will agree 11 million viewers is low and nascar has a big problem with that make me wonder how many of the viewers like me had the channel on but taking a few zzzzzzs along the way ...nascar has become a very good sleeping pill might say number one there ..

That was also back when there were 3 TV options CBS, NBC and ABC and no HuLu, netflix and all that jazz. I know many think NASCAR sucks but our lil ol short tracks need all the new fans we can get and most come from watching racing on TV. I know, dirt fans don't care about NASCAR but a new fan looking for local racing may not care whether asphalt or dirt hopefully.

Cup racing our only option to capture new audiences so I hope it gets better for them.

Just think about this for a minute. 11.4 million viewers that means there was a tv on inside the house. I watched the race but wasn't at my house. I went to a friends house that had a watch party. There was about 20-25 people there and nobody asked us how many people were watching it. I know people that were on the road traveling that didn't watch it live but had it dvr'd and watched it later which the viewing numbers don't take into consideration. What about your local sports bar that had the race on and people are there watching it as well and those people aren't being counted. I am not that big of a NASCAR fan that I used to be but its mainly because I don't want to listen to DW, Michael Waltrip, and Larry McReynolds. The two races I have watched this year both came down to a hundredth of a second. I am taking my wife to the race at TMS in April. This will be her first live NASCAR race and she is excited to go.

All of the races have been great man. Did you see the one yesterday. Different strategies going door to door for the win. That was awesome.

Thanks Brian for the great entertainment on Sundays. The racing has never been better. I am packing up my RV and getting it ready to head to TMS for the greatest show on earth.

Well, for what it's worth I've been watching NASCAR since before I was old enough to remember watching NASCAR and I can already tell you this year I will watch far less NASCAR than I ever have before.

I usually watch the "big races" (Daytona, Talledega, Bristol, Martinsville, the 600, etc) live and tape the remainder to watch that evening. This year I taped the 500 and watched it in about 30 minutes, I caught the last 20 minutes of Phoenix and I deleted the remainder of the races from the DVR unwatched. I don't mind the commentators and I will grant that the racing is better now then it has been but that is no great achievement.

There are a lot of reasons NASCAR sucks, I'll list a few;

The intermediate tracks SUCK

The racers have had the life drained out of them by NASCAR's inane rules

The cars have had the life drained out of them by NASCAR's inane rules

They ruined Bristol last time they rebuilt it

They won't stop jerking with the restrictor plate tracks so you never know if there is going to be racing or not

As the cost to compete has gone up the quality of driver has gone down, it is no longer about the best driver but who has the biggest check book

The new franchise deal (or whatever it is called) is insulting to the history of the sport; there will never be another under-dog that wins a race or a "Cinderella" story, no little guy with a one car team will ever-again win a race much less a championship

The intermediate tracks SUCK

I don't really care to have Brian France telling me who to vote for based upon what rich kids he grew up with

The cup driver's have ruined the (I think it's Xfinity now and Camping World still?) series

The intermediate tracks SUCK and...

The Intermediate tracks SUCK

I know that we are not talking about it here but some where we were talking about the drop in car counts at the NASCAR races. Reb had mention he was wondering if NASCAR would have to pay back sponsors for not having full fields. Well I heard on NASCAR radio on Sirius today that NASCAR considers 36 cars as a full field.
