NickHolt
For immediate release Contact: Dani Promotions (512) 736-8230 Smith and Godbolt named Co-Grand Marshalls for May 30th TSRS race (Austin, TX) At first glance, Casey Smith and Michael "Bucky" Godbolt don't seem to have very much in common. However, the two will share more than just a title when they perform their Co-Grand Marshall duties at Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) night at Thunder Hill Raceway on May 30th in Kyle. Smith, a senior at Bowie High School in Austin, is a successful, up-and-coming race car driver who runs in the American Speed Association (ASA) series. Godbolt is successful in his own right, as he's a morning show host for KVET-AM 1300 in Austin. Both Smith and Godbolt will participate in the opening ceremonies at Thunder Hill on Friday, May 30, when TSRS runs a 100-lap, double-points feature race. "We're very happy to have both Casey and Bucky join us for what should be a great night of festivities," said Chuck Licata, TSRS Media Director and Series Announcer. "All of Central Texas is excited about Casey and his promising career as a race-car driver. He's a great model for kids of all ages, and he's an outstanding young man who deals very well with the media and the public." Licata added, "Godbolt has come a long way since he hosted a one hour, once-a-week radio show a couple years ago. I admire him a lot for how he's become a major personality in Austin, and how much he gives back to the community. Bucky now hosts one of the most popular morning shows in Austin, and he certainly does a lot for charity and the Ausitn community. In fact, we're looking forward to helping Bucky on our race night by signing up a foursome or two for his charity golf tournament, the Mullet Open." The 3rd Annual Mullet Open will be held on June 28 at the Golf Club at Circle C and will benefit the Bucky Godbolt "School Zone" Scholarship & The Salvation Army. Godbolt, a former running backs coach at the University of Texas, has coached running backs at the college level for 15 years and has helped mold the football careers of outstanding running backs such as Troy Stradford, Boston College Rookie of the Year; Howard Griffith, a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the Denver Broncos; Ricky Williams, UT's Heisman Trophy Winner and current All-Pro running back for the Miami Dolphins; and Priest Holmes, current All-Pro Running Back for the Kansas City Chiefs and former San Antonio Marshall High School running back. Information on Bucky Godbolt can be found on his web site, www.buckyg.com. The 18-year-old Smith is a top candidate for Rookie of the Year honors in ASA. He has three top-15 finishes in four starts this year, including a career-best third-place finish at the Georgia 250 in late April. Smith started his driving career just two days after his fifth birthday. He's been very successful at every level of racing he's competed in, including the Legends series. Key members of Smith Racing include Casey's parents, Glen and Kathy Smith; crew chief Robert Hamke; G.E. Chapman (Spotter); Billy Peavey (Rear Tire Changer/Fuel Man); Brian Morgan (Front Tire Changer); Jason Stevenson (Front Tire Carrier); and Mark Biles (Jackman). Information on Casey Smith and Smith Racing can be found at www.caseysmith.com. Licata hosts a one-hour racing radio show, The Motorsports Zone, on KVET-AM 1300 on Saturday mornings from 9-10 a.m.
