Hot Rod Power Tour on Its Way

Thousands of classic cars will descend on MIR for day of fun, world record

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (June 8, 2015) - The classic car world will descend on Memphis International Raceway (MIR) on Tuesday, June 9 when the Hot Rod Power Tour arrives in the Mid-South.

This year's Hot Rod Power Tour is expected to attract more than 6,000 participants as this caravan of American muscle and show cars winds its way from Madison, Wis. to Baton Rouge, La. The event at MIR is free and open to spectators. There is a $5 parking fee.

"The Hot Rod Power Tour is always an exciting event for us," said MIR VP and GM Pam Kendrick. "This event brings thousands of automotive enthusiasts to our facility and our city. Through our partnership

with the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, we're planning to welcome all of them with open arms and with a full schedule of things to see and do, especially the World's Largest Burnout."

Gates to MIR will open at noon and will kick off a full day of activity all around the track.

There will be a large manufacturer's midway on site with a number of autograph sessions during the day which includes hot rodding legend Vic Edelbrock, Courtney Hansen of "Overhaulin" and Miss Hot Rod, Kristian Mills.

The drag strip will be open to registered cars from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. for quarter-mile fun runs, and the COMP Cams Engine Builder Duel will take place at 3 p.m. at the COMP Cams display on the midway.

The item on the schedule that is generating the most buzz is the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest continuous tire burnout that will take place on the drag strip at 4:30 p.m. The Australians packed 103 cars onto a track in January to set the current mark and the Hot Rod Power Tour is looking to smash that record with its attempt, which is presented by Continental Tire.

"There's so much for every car lover to do and see," Kendrick said. "It's a great excuse to take a long lunch or to leave work early to take in all the wonderfully restored cars and see all that we'll have set up."

The night will be capped with an 8 p.m. cruise-in to Beale Street, which is presented by COMP Cams. (Click Here for a complete schedule.)

For those who'd like to enter their car into the day's activities, one-day registrations will be available at the track on Tuesday, June 9 starting at noon. A one-day registration is $55.
