Monge, Heeney, and Butler Grab Spartan Speedway Checkers

By Duane Turner, Mason, MI: With a racing double scheduled for Memorial Day weekend at Spartan Speedway, the Friday night portion would provide great racing action. Brian Heeney, Leroy Butler and Tony Monge would grab the main event checkered flags.

The first features of the evening would be The Parts Place Napa Bandoleros. Richelle Michalak would lead the Bandits to the green flag, but Faith Schuch would jump to an early lead, only to relinquish that lead on lap two. Nate Jenkins would take the point then pull away to take the feature win. Mike Findlay Jr and Schuch would be the top three. The Junior Bandit feature would see Jon Parish take early command, and dominate the event. Danika LaPoint and Kylie Beckner would round out the top three

The Performance Automotive Northwest Modifieds would start their 35-lap feature with Justin Kazmar taking the early lead with Jim Butler and Leroy Butler in tow. Leroy would sneak under Jim to take over second on lap 6. On a lap eight restart, Leroy Butler would get the jump and take the point. Larry Wallace would begin to make his presence felt on lap ten when he slid in to fourth, and quickly would challenge for third. Jim Butler would take over second on lap 21, then a caution would appear for fourth place Wallace sending him to the tail for the restart. With seven laps remaining, Jim Butler would bring out the caution, ending his second place run. This would have Leroy Butler and Kazmar on the front row for the final restart. Dan Loughan would slip in to third, and race with Kazmar for second, taking the spot on lap 32. At the finish Leroy Butler would take the win with Loughan, Aaron Timmerman, Wallace, and Kazmar the top five.

The Sawyers Chevrolet Michigan Legends would begin their 25-lap feature with Rick Kilbourn taking the early lead. Tony Monge would quickly close on the leader, and take the point on the second circuit. Greg Rudzik would close in on Kilbourn just a few laps later and challenge for the runner up spot. Rudzik would bring out the caution on lap 11, moving Mitchell Huber in to the third spot. On the restart, Huber would quickly move past Kilbourn to take over second. Just three laps later, Kilbourn would retake second as Huber would begin to fight under-steer on corner exit. At the checkers, Monge would continue his winning streak with Kilbourn and Huber in the top three.

The Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock A Feature would have Wayne Parkhurst take the early lead. On lap five, it would be three wide racing for the lead with Parkhurst, Brian Beckner, and Tyler Heeney. Beckner would take the top spot one lap later and would quickly pull away. Wayne Beckner Jr would slip in to third at the half way point. With side by side racing for the lead between Beckner and Heeney over the final seven laps, Heeney would finally nose ahead at the white flag and take the win. Brian Beckner would finish second, with Wayne Beckner Jr third.

B Feature for the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stocks would have Jamie Logie lead the field to green. Ken Dollarhite Jr would take the point in turn three on the opening lap, with Carter Trudgeon and Josh Finner in tow. Lap five saw Trudgeon take over the lead, and Laura Beckner move in to third. At the finish Trudgeon takes the win, with Dollarhite Jr in second. Josh Finner would sneak in to third on the final lap.
