URSS Sprints Invade DCRP on Saturday

DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 5, 2015) If there is one thing to expect when the United Rebel Sprint Series comes to Dodge City Raceway Park, its the unexpected.



The first of four scheduled URSS tilts for 2015 atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval is this Saturday night also marks the third round of action in the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car title chase.



Along with the unpredictable Sprint Car action, a full slate of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks is also on tap for Saturday night with action getting under way at 7:30 p.m.



While Taylor Velasquez topped the most recent URSS card at DCRP in last years season-ending Jerry Soderberg Memorial, Ty Williams and Luke Cranston have topped this seasons DCRP Sprint Car features to run the stretch of different winners to eight in as many events.



With nearly 30 Sprint Cars in the pit area in both previous events this season, Williams snagged his first DCRP win in the season opening event on April 11 while Cranston was a first time Dodge City winner as well in the most recent outing as well on April 25.



Last years URSS winners at Dodge City included Zac Taylor, reigning URSS champion Jake Bubak, Jared Kern and Taylor Velasquez while Zach Blurton and J.D. Johnson topped the final pair of events in 2013.



With a win on June 29 of 2013, Turpin, Oklahomas Velasquez stands as the only repeat winner in the past nine URSS/DCRP Sprint Car events. Velasquez season got off to a rough start though with a flip in the season opener while battling for position near the front of the pack.



While Jed Werner is out to the early URSS points lead with a recent Liberal score ahead of Zac Taylor and C.J. Johnson, its Ness City native Luke Cranston with an early advantage in the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car points chase with a 12-point advantage over C.J. Johnson with Brian Herbert, Ray Seemann and Ty Williams also among the early top five.



In the other DCRP championship chase divisions, Clay Sellard and Michael Pepper are both a perfect two-for-two after wins in the opening pair of events.



Sellard doubled up in IMCA Modified action to take an early ten-point lead over reigning champ Austin Allen, who finished second in both opening features.



Pepper has dominated IMCA Stock Car action in the opening two events to open a 14-point lead over Dusty Witthuhn and Ron Hartman, who are tied for second.



While Jeremy Sigler and defending champ Jeff Kaup have topped the opening two rounds of IMCA Sport Modified action, its Kevin Tabor out to an early lead by just four points over Mike Appel, Bart Baker and Michael Pepper as only 14 points separate the top seven in points.



After topping the April 25 IMCA Hobby Stock card, Matt OHair is out to the early points lead with a six point advantage over opening night winner Cody Davis.



General admission tickets to Saturdays action is are just $15, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $30.



The 2015 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park includes 15 nights of competition with a number of special events along the way, highlighted by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown on July 3-4.
