Pro-Am to Add Spice to Bracket Race

Tougher competition could shake up season points races

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (April 30) - The competition at Saturday's Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams event is expected to be some of the stiffest competition drives will face at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) all season.

This weekend's bracket race is running alongside the Summit Racing IHRA Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL and a significant number of those racers are expected to take part in the race.

"We've got some top-quality drag racers coming here for the Pro-Am," said MIR's Director of Drag Strip Operations Paul Cartwright. "The car count will be large for our bracket race and it will be a great challenge for our regular racers to see how they stack up against some of the best racers from around the country."

With a number of drivers in the field, points will be at a premium and a good performance can help drivers in the middle of the standings close the gap to the leaders.

B&B Towing Footbrake has one of the tightest points races out there right now with John Castellaw III in front with 353 points and T.J. Tracey in second with 324. Caffey Broadus is 51 points behind the leader.

Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro has Michael Hall enjoying a 40 point lead, but the competition for second is pretty tight. Second place Shane Stout has Leigh Hubbard nine points behind him and Kenny Pease only 20 points out of second.

Even though Tyler Poindexter's three race winning streak in R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster was snapped last week, the three firsts and a runner-up in his last four races have allowed him to build a 23 point edge over his brother, Justin Poindexter. Drew Tracey, Brianna Moore and Tara Taylor are in a three-way battle for third with only 11 points separating the three racers.

Billy Foster Sr. is enjoying a comfortable lead in R.T. Turbines DOT Street sitting 74 points ahead of second, which is a tie between David Elam and Cliff Hubbard.

The Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams race is expected to get under way following Saturday's Pro-Am Tour racing (approximately 5 p.m.)
