Joey Coulter Scores Sixth-Place Finish in the No. 21 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway

 

 

 

Joey Coulter, driver of the No. 21 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet Silverado, passed the checkered flag with a sixth place finish in Friday nights WinStar World Casino and Resort 350 at the Texas Motor Speedway. On All Hallows' Eve, the Miami Springs, Fla., driver started the extended 147-lap event from the 13th position under the lights, and by Lap 10 began battling free conditions. When the first caution fell on Lap 23, the GMS Racing team called Coulter to pit road for four tires and fuel. By Lap 30, Coulter became a fixture in the top 10. The 24-year-old slipped back by one position, when he told crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz that his Chevrolet Silverado splitter was on the track. A determined Coulter quickly made up ground driving through traffic, and by Lap 60, he had moved up to ninth position. As the green-flag run progressed, teams opted for green-flag pit stops, and the Allegiant Travel team took four tires, fuel and made chassis adjustments under green-flag conditions to help Coulter's handling. When the caution flag was displayed on Lap 75 for debris, Coulter was in the 14th position. Under caution Stankiewicz directed Coulter to pit road so the GMS Racing pit crew could top-off with fuel. The race restarted on Lap 81 with Coulter scored in the eighth position, with Coulter leading the GMS Racing duo to the front of the field. He continued to battle around the 1.5-mile track for position while working to stay inside the top-10. By the third caution of the evening on Lap 97, Coulter was eighth. The team again visited pit road to make a track bar adjustment, a four-tire change and fuel. Coulter was scored in the ninth position for the restart, but worked his way to fifth by the Lap 107 caution and ensuing red flag for fluid on the track. On Lap 139, under caution, Coulter came to pit road for the final refuel as well as right-side tires. The GMS Racing driver climbed as high as fourth in the running order by Lap 150, and with five laps to go, Coulter restarted fourth for a green-white-checkered finish. In the two-lap overtime shootout, Coulter collected a sixth-place finish under caution.

Gresham Finishes Seventh at Texas Motor Speedway

 

 

 

Max Gresham drove GMS Racings No. 23 AmWINS Group Inc. Chevrolet Silverado to a seventh-place finish in the WinStar World Casino and Resort 350 at the Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night. Under the Texas stars on Halloween, Gresham and the AmWINS Group Inc. team rolled passed the green flag in the 18th position for the 20th race of the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season. The Milner, Ga., native quickly moved through the field into the top 15 by Lap 10. Gresham reported to the Ryan Pickle London led-team that the handling on his blue and white Chevrolet Silverado was free. The No. 23 team earned their first opportunity to bring Gresham to pit road under the Lap 23 caution, changing four tires with an air pressure adjustment, adding fuel and making a track bar adjustment. Despite battling a vibration, Gresham climbed back into 15th-place by Lap 40. With a long green-flag run, teams were forced to make scheduled green-flag pit stops, and Gresham hit pit road on Lap 71 for four tires, fuel and another track bar adjustment. Once the 32-truck field cycled through stops, Gresham was scored in 16th-place on Lap 75 as the caution flag waved. The call was made to have Gresham top-off with fuel on Lap 78. The 21-year-old restarted the WinStar World Casino and Resort 350 from 10th place on Lap 81. As the night continued, four-wide racing occurring around the 1.5-mile track, Gresham was shuffled back to 13th before the third caution flag of the night waved on Lap 97. Gresham made his final stop of the night under caution, pitting for four tires, two cans fuel, and a wedge adjustment to free-up the No. 23 AmWINS Group Inc. Chevrolet. He restarted the race on Lap 101 from the 13th position. An incident on Lap 107 brought out a lengthy caution and a red flag period for fluid on the track that set up the final run to the checkered flag. Restarting in 10th place on Lap 114, Gresham remained in the top 10 during the late laps of the race. On Lap 139 crew chief London made the gamble to stay out for the final dash. On the Lap 142 restart, Gresham restarted fourth with only five laps to go. Gresham took the checkered flag under caution at the end of a green-white-checkered-flag run in seventh place for his season finale race with GMS Racing for the 2014 season.

Texas Motor Speedway was a very high and low weekend for my AmWINS Group Inc. team. Our practice session on Thursday was far from perfect and we were still swinging for the fences when we rolled out for qualifying on Friday afternoon. However, my crew chief Pickle (Ryan London) nailed it for qualifying and the Chevrolet Silverado was amazing all race.

 

 

 

We were able to make the high-line really work as the tires got some wear on them and that's how we were able to pick up some spots.

 

 

 

On that final restart, I gave it everything I could on the older tires. I ran my heart out and just wish we could have finished to the checkers and picked up another spot. All in all, it was a fantastic weekend to end my season.
