Powers; Two Others to Decide NCRA Mod Championship Saturday Night

Park City, Kansas October 21, 2014 - Eleven events have been completed on the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division tour and there is still no clear picture as to who will be crowned 2014 champion. That will all change this coming Saturday night, October 25, at 81 Speedway in Park City as the tour will wrap up their season in what is guaranteed to be a tense yet exciting end to a rather memorable point battle.

Heading into this weekends finale, Dan Powers has it and two other drivers want it as Powers comes into the finale with a slim 20 point lead over Nebraska veteran Jon Thompson. Powers has claimed two victories on the season while Thompson has put gremlins of season past behind him and took advantage of defending tour champion Marc Hurds misfortune this past weekend to set himself into the runner up position. Thompson has one victory on the season, this coming atop the big half mile at the Kansas State Fairgrounds back in April. Defending and three-time tour champion Hurd still has a legitimate shot at a three-peat as he sits third in the standings just 35 points out.

For Powers and Thompson, this will be their first career series championship if either driver can come out on top.

And while the battle for the NCRA modified championship takes center stage Saturday night, other drivers will be out giving their all or nothing effort for the $1000 victory in this the final event on the season. Last weekend at 81 Speedway it was Tanner Mullens becoming the seventh different feature winner on the 2014 race season. Forty-five drivers were on hand and officials are expecting as many this weekend.

In the battle for the rookie of the year honors, Chris Pitts, who sits seventh in the point standings, currently has an 18 point lead over Cuyler Calkin for top rookie honors.

Pit gates this Saturday night for the season finale open at 5:00 PM with racing slated for a 7:00 PM start time. 81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. in Park City.
