Bell Adds 21st Win of the Year Back on Asphalt this Weekend

by Lonnie Wheatley

NORMAN, Okla. (October 14, 2014) Twenty-one main event wins on the year is the latest count for 19-year-old Christopher Bell after picking off another POWRi Midget win over the weekend.

The victory at Illinois Lincoln Speedway highlighted a weekend that included what could have been another win in the Sprint Car portion of the Friday double header and then a sixth-place run in Saturdays All Star Circuit of Champions season finale at Ohios Eldora Speedway.

The Norman, OK, native will take in another weekend of asphalt aboard a Kyle Busch Motorsports entry at North Carolinas Hickory Motor Speedway before returning to the dirt for next weeks Short Track Nationals at Little Rocks I-30 Speedway aboard Brandon Berrymans No. 31b.

Fridays double-dip at Lincoln Speedway started out in strong form with Bell racing from third to win his Midget heat and then charging from tenth to win the Sprint Car heat race as well, earning the pole position for both feature events.

Bell jumped into the lead at the outset of the POWRi Midget feature aboard the Keith Kunz Motorsports Toyota No. 71 and led all the way for his 15th Midget win of the year and 21st overall feature triumph.

It was rubbered down from the start, so we just rolled around and stayed out of trouble, Bell explained of the victory drive.

Its pretty awesome to get to 21 wins for the year, hopefully we can add at least a couple more before its over, Bell said.

He nearly added one immediately after, starting from the pole position of the MOWA Sprint Car feature aboard the Fox Brothers No. 53 machine. But an opening lap incident nixed any hopes of adding win number 22 on Friday night.

We had that Sprint Car race, but then spun in the first corner, Bell said. It was mostly just bolt-on stuff, but four of the guys pulled an all-nighter to get the car repaired and ready for Eldora on Saturday.

With the repairs made, Bell timed in fourth-quick among the 36 competitors signed in for the All Star Circuit of Champions winged 410 Sprint Car portion of Eldoras Sprintacular before ultimately posting a strong sixth-place finish in the feature to run his season top-ten total to 61.

We qualified good and were fast all night, just had a couple of little problems that kept us from moving forward in any of the races, Bell commented. It was still a pretty good night though.

Bell is back in Charlotte prepping for this weekends late model action at Hickory Motor Speedway where he took in a pair of weekends in early September.

It will be some more good experience, its definitely quite a bit different than what Im accustomed to, Bell says of the upcoming weekend. Im looking forward to it.

2014 Quick Stats: 92 races, 21 wins, 48 top-fives, 61 top-tens.
